PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields. It’s a technology used to stimulate and exercise cells to help resolve cellular dysfunction and to support overall wellness. Layering skincare 101!

Morning versus night time skincare differs slightly. During the day, your skin is exposed to dirt, makeup, UV rays, oil production, pollutants, bacteria from your hands and phone touching your face, among a number of other things. All of this contributes to the wear and tear of your skin, and your skin’s collagen production.

In the morning, you need to cleanse and moisturize effectively to protect your skin from these harmful factors. Then before bedtime, the focus shifts to repair and regenerate. A great rule of thumb when it comes to skincare layering is starting with your thinner or water based products, and working up to your thicker, oil based products.

MORNING:
Make sure to cleanse in the morning to wash off any oil or nighttime products still on the skin. ALWAYS, always reach for that SPF! A few great morning serums include, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C. If you wear makeup day to day, a primer is a MUST. Primer provides a barrier between your skin and the makeup, preventing clogged pores and acne.

NIGHT:
If you choose to double cleanse, great, but it’s not absolutely necessary. Be sure to use an oil based cleanser first, followed by a water based cleanser. Exfoliate maximum twice a week, and be sure to always do this at night so the skin has time to heal overnight. The best anti-aging nighttime serums are your retinol/retinoids and niacinimide. Antioxidants are also great to throw in at night. Reach for your thicker moisturizer or night cream, and don’t neglect the lips! Lip treatments pack tons of moisture into the lips, especially in this dry Calgary climate.

Retinol x Vitamin C
Vitamin C x Niacinimide
Retinol x Benzoyl Peroxide
Retinol x AHA/BHA

NOTE: If you’re more of a minimalist when it comes to skincare, your must have basics are: Cleanser, serum, moisturizer and SPF (morning only).

As always, the best thing you can do for your skin (besides wearing SPF daily) is drinking tons of water!
