This week is Mental Health Week and the theme for this year is understanding that all emotions, comfortable or uncomfortable, are part of the human experience.

All emotions are important communicators and drivers for action.

I invite you to listen to your emotions, validate your emotions, and talk about your emotions this week and every other week as you care for your mental health.

Supporting clients in healing attachment wounds is one of my favourite areas to work in.

Clients find it eye opening when they discover that feelings, behaviours, and dynamics they have been experiencing within relationships for years have to do with their attachment style.

Piecing together how we came about adopting this adaptations, and how at some point, they helped us move forward, can also bring a sense of relief as things finally MAKE SENSE.

Lastly, the bulk of the work lies in finding ways to move towards feeling secure as we relate with others, with ourselves, and with the world.

Overwhelming experiences or chronic stress can impact the functioning of our nervous system. Through somatic work, we can get our nervous system back in shape.
A healthy nervous system allows us to be calm, yet alert and connected with ourselves, the world, the present moment, and others.

I have been hearing from clients, friends, and also feeling it myself, a sense of fatigue and hopelessness around the "new normal".
Living in a pandemic consumes a lot more of our inner resources as we have to plan, think, and relate differently. So for some of us, our inner resources are pretty maxed out. This means that when other life difficulties arrive, we do not have much left, making them seem far more overwhelming.

Watch the video bellow for some tips on how to strengthen your inner psychological resources.

Today is World's Mental Health Day and my message to you is very simple: your experience is valid.
It is OK to feel sad
It is OK to cry
It is OK to feel angry
It is OK to reach out
It is OK to feel dissapointed
It is OK to need help
It is OK to feel anxious
It is OK to say no
It is OK to feel joy
It is OK to take care of yourself
Validate your experience... Your experience is OK. This does not mean that your experience couldn't be improved. This means that your experience is not wrong. Reach out if your experience feels uncomfortable. Take care of yourself.

I came accross this quote which I felt communicated acceptance for our most basic sense of self.

Self-Acceptance and Self-Compassion are key to improving our well-being. I have found that a lack of self-acceptance and self-compassion tipically hides beneath low self-esteem, perfectionism, depression, anxiety, stress, etc.

My invitation today is for you to notice those apsects of yourself that you can't manage to accept, see if you can make sense of where they are coming from (early relationship with your caregivers, other meaningful relationships/experiences, messages you have received and internalized) , and work towards embracing them with warmth, understanding, no judgement, and love.

Give yourself a warm hugh today. You deserve it.
