As we move into March, we’re encouraged by the continued growth and engagement across the Alethea network. In February we saw:

• 4,000+ eConsults sent
• 5-hour median response time
• 8 new specialists added

Each eConsult reflects a primary care provider seeking timely, case-based specialist input to support confident clinical decision-making. Our focus remains the same: accelerating access to expertise while reducing unnecessary delays and administrative burden. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Brett Wegenast to Alethea.

Dr. Wegenast is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist practicing at Access Orthopaedics in Calgary. He completed his medical degree and residency at the University of Alberta and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He holds additional certification in electrodiagnostics as a diplomate of the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists (EMG) and has advanced training in fluoroscopic- and ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.

His practice focuses on evidence-based interventional pain management for a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions, with particular expertise in spine interventions. He will be supporting primary care providers on the platform by responding to Physiatry eConsults.

We look forward to the expertise and practical guidance Dr. Wegenast will bring to the Alethea network.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Charles Metcalfe to Alethea as a Urology consultant.

Dr. Metcalfe completed his medical degree at the University of Calgary, followed by Urology residency training at the University of British Columbia, and advanced fellowship training in Urologic and Robotic Oncology and Endourology at the University of Southern California. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has contributed extensively to clinical research, education, and international academic conferences.

His clinical interests include robotic urologic oncology, endourology and stone disease, and general urology, including BPH, lower urinary tract symptoms, and hematuria. Dr. Metcalfe is committed to patient-centred care and close collaboration with primary care providers, offering evidence-based guidance to support timely diagnosis, management, and referral decisions through Alethea.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Dorothy Yu to Alethea as a General Adult Psychiatry consultant.

Dr. Yu is a general adult psychiatrist at Rockyview General Hospital, where she works with inpatients and in the Day Hospital Program. She also serves as Clinical Medical Director for the Urgent Psychiatric Consultation Clinic, Transition Clinic, and the Day Hospital Program, and is actively involved in supervising medical students and residents. Her clinical expertise includes the management of acute mania and psychosis, depressive and anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD. Through Alethea, Dr. Yu will be responding to Psychiatry eConsuls.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Martin Vetter to Alethea as a Psychiatry consultant. Dr. Vetter is an Associate Clinical Professor in Psychiatry at the University of Calgary and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Alberta Children’s Hospital. With training at Ulm University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard Medical School (Massachusetts General/McLean Hospital), he brings internationally trained expertise to pediatric mental health care in Alberta.

As a co-founder and consultant for Joyce Health and President of the Alberta Medical Association Section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Dr. Vetter works at the intersection of clinical care, system navigation, and policy leadership. Through Alethea, Dr. Vetter is available to support primary care providers with pediatric psychiatric assessments, treatment guidance, and system navigation insights to facilitate timely, evidence-based mental health care for children and adolescents.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Amel Abdalkreem to Alethea.

Dr. Abdalkreem is a pediatrician with over 12 years of experience in Pediatrics and Neonatology. She trained at the University of Khartoum, completed the MRCPCH in the UK, and pursued fellowship training in Neonatal–Perinatal Medicine at the University of Calgary. She also completed the CanREACH Mental Health Fellowship and holds a Certificate in Clinical Research from McMaster University.

She has practised across emergency, inpatient, and outpatient settings in high-acuity tertiary care centres, with clinical interests in community pediatrics, complex care, pediatric mental health, and evidence-based practice.

Dr. Abdalkreem is available for eConsults supporting common and complex pediatric care, neonatal and perinatal questions, pediatric mental health, and diagnostic and treatment guidance.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Mohamed Ashif Majeed to Alethea.

Dr. Majeed completed his residency and fellowship training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at Cambridge University Hospitals in England, where he also practised as a consultant and was recognised for clinical excellence. Since relocating to Canada in 2020, he has continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care. In 2023, he founded Endocrine Health Calgary, with the goal of improving access to endocrine services through reduced wait times and virtual care options for patients across Alberta.

Dr. Majeed brings comprehensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of endocrine and metabolic disorders, including Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, insulin pump therapy, thyroid and parathyroid disease, osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease, adrenal and pituitary disorders, and reproductive endocrinology. He is available to support primary care providers through Internal Medicine and Endocrinology eConsults, particularly for complex or unclear presentations.

We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Matt McIsaac to Alethea, where he will be responding to Sports Medicine eConsults on the platform.

Dr. McIsaac is a full-time Sport Medicine physician based in Canmore, Alberta, working within a multidisciplinary care model focused on whole-person health and keeping patients active at every stage of life. With experience supporting both competitive athletes and everyday movement, he brings a practical, function-first approach to injury management and recovery.

His clinical background includes years of surgical assist work in sport and arthroplasty orthopedics, as well as emergency care in rural and urban settings, giving him a strong perspective on both acute injury management and long-term rehabilitation. His current practice emphasizes regenerative, injection-based therapies and image-guided interventions to support pain relief and return to function.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Ericka Wiebe to the Alethea platform.

Dr. Wiebe is a Radiation Oncologist at the Cross Cancer Institute and an Associate Professor in the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, with specialized expertise in breast and gynecologic cancers. She is deeply involved in multidisciplinary tumour boards, clinical trials, and collaborative cancer care, with academic interests spanning MRI-guided techniques, quality-of-life outcomes, and risk-adapted treatment strategies.

Dr. Wiebe brings extensive national and international leadership experience, including her role as Breast Cancer Site Lead in Radiation Oncology, past-President of the Canadian Brachytherapy Group, and current Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology.

Through Alethea, primary care providers can access Dr. Wiebe’s expertise on a wide range of breast health and gynecologic oncology questions, including radiation-related toxicities, post-treatment symptom management, endocrine therapy side effects, survivorship care, and coordination within multidisciplinary oncology pathways.

We’re excited to expand the Alethea Care Network with the addition of Hematopathology and to welcome Dr. Tariq Roshan as our first Hematopathologist on the platform.

Dr. Roshan is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Calgary and a Hematopathologist with Alberta Precision Laboratories, where he also serves as Clinical Section Chief, Director of the Hematological Pathology Fellowship Program, and Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry Laboratory.

Through Alethea, family physicians can consult Dr. Roshan for diagnostic and management guidance across a wide range of hematopathology and laboratory medicine questions. His expertise includes interpreting complex CBC abnormalities, flow cytometry results, coagulation studies, hemoglobinopathies, and clinicopathologic correlations, helping determine appropriate testing and next steps before referral.
