A partnership in patient care 🔦

Virtuous Circle Counselling and Alethea are joining forces to make non-insured mental health care easier to access for providers and patients across Alberta.
VCC’s multidisciplinary team of registered psychologists and clinical therapists supports children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families — treating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, chronic illness, and more using evidence-based approaches (CBT, ACT, EMDR, DBT). Comprehensive psychoeducational, ADHD, and gifted assessments are also available.
In-person or virtual. Rapid intake. Direct billing.
Through our partnership, Alethea users can refer to VCC directly through the platform — closing the gap between primary care and timely mental health support.

We’re excited to introduce a new specialty on Alethea: Lifestyle Medicine, and to welcome Dr. Adam Morawski as our first specialist in this area.

Dr. Morawski is a family physician based in Calgary with over five years of experience in family medicine and weight management. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine and brings a strong focus on addressing the root causes of chronic disease through evidence-based lifestyle interventions.

His work emphasizes improving outcomes in conditions such as obesity, metabolic disease, and other chronic illnesses, often supporting better control and, in some cases, remission when combined with standard care.

We’re proud to expand access to this growing field and to support primary care providers with practical, preventative, and patient-centred approaches to long-term health!

Understanding personality disorders in primary care requires more than diagnosis, it requires recognizing patterns, maintaining boundaries, and building structured, consistent care relationships.

In our recent learning session, Dr. Jadah Johnson shared a practical framework for managing Cluster B presentations, with a focus on attachment dynamics, risk assessment, and sustainable care strategies.

Key takeaway: A structured, longitudinal approach is more effective than reactive, crisis-driven care.

Case Spotlight: Osteoporosis Management

A patient on bisphosphonate therapy presents with discordant BMD changes, improvement in the spine, but decline at the hip.

Rather than immediately changing treatment, an internal medicine eConsult highlighted the importance of a structured evaluation:
• Assess for secondary causes (vitamin D deficiency, hyperparathyroidism, monoclonal gammopathy, malabsorption)
• Confirm medication adherence and absorption
• Monitor trends over time before escalating therapy

If decline persists (>5% change), escalation to alternative therapies may be appropriate.

Key takeaway: Not all BMD changes require immediate intervention, longitudinal assessment and clinical context are essential.

Primary care providers often identify services that could benefit their patients, yet locating reliable non-insured resources and navigating referral pathways can be time-intensive and fragmented.

The Alethea Non-Insured Services Network provides a centralized directory of curated services that can be accessed directly within the Alethea platform. The network is designed to support clinicians when patients may benefit from services outside publicly insured care, while maintaining continuity, clarity, and a streamlined referral workflow.

Through the network, providers can:
• Access a curated directory of trusted services
• Make referrals within their existing Alethea workflow
• Maintain clear coordination of care for patients

The goal is to reduce administrative friction while helping clinicians connect patients with appropriate supportive services when needed.

Structuring an effective consult question doesn’t have to be time-consuming.

In this short walkthrough, we demonstrate how Primary Care Providers can structure a clear, concise eConsult question in under three minutes. By outlining the patient context, relevant clinical details, and the specific question for the specialist, providers can help ensure faster, more actionable responses.

Clear consult questions support more efficient specialist communication—helping you move patient care forward with confidence.
