“You are a child of the universe. No less than the trees and the stars you belong here”

We have been working on these toddler / preschool wet felted planets and sun for months and finally completed them when it was too cold to venture outdoors. Think -49! 🥶

I think they’re wonderful 🪐🥰
Have you tried wet felting with your little ones?

Thank you to .and.aprons for encouraging me to include my toddlers in our wet felting! It seems daunting at first but they love squishing the wet, warm soapy felt! I was so impressed!

La berceuse de l’hiver

Why do bears sleep all winter? What does hibernate mean? Is winter over yet? 😂😂 All questions we are exploring at the moment…..we gathered some of our nature finds and tried to create snowy bear dens ❄️❄️❄️ or a tree craft? Glue had to be involved too!

La berceuse de l’hiver (Winter Lullaby)

is a beautiful story for children about a mama and baby bear going to sleep for the winter 🐻❤️

What books are you reading for winter?

Have you ever seen such a colourful ice sofa?! Temps are warming up now and it’s starting to melt 🤣 All of that hard work! Honestly, it was too cold so we had some quick snacks in our outdoor living room and I hope it doesn’t melt before we can actually have some more fun!

What did you do when temps were -30? 🤣

We started our year with temperatures so cold that even bubbles froze as we blew them. Others popped in the air and turned into floating ice crystals.
To make our -35 bubble blowing more exciting 😂 we made a DIY snowflake bubble wand. We had about ten bubbles freeze on the snow all at once and I wish I had taken a picture but my son was so excited that he popped them all immediately. It was too cold to continue and blow more 🧊❄️🥶

Have you ever had temperatures this cold? The other day we had a high of -25 and a low of -49 🧊 It’s supposed to warm up in a few days and we couldn’t be more excited!

I have to credit again for her gorgeous DIY bubble wands ❤️

No better way to start a calming new year than some nature based sensory play.

✨Throw in some cranberries (thanks for this amazing idea!)
✨Use leftover citrus rinds and create star shapes to add - Idea compliments of the lovely earth_and_sky_play
✨Add nature finds and water
✨Add sparkles!

We played and added our concoction to our star molds and froze them outside for some January ice decor ❤️🧊

Christmas bird seed decorations

We decided to leave our bird friends some Christmas love as well! These are a must to make with little ones! We melted lard and added bird seed, then filled our cookie cutter shapes and froze them. Be sure to poke a hole through the shape prior to freezing to loop a string through for hanging.

These can be found everywhere with many different ingredients.

Let us know if you try these!

We have been a bit quiet over here, preparing for Christmas, my husband’s birthday and doing small renovations on our new home.

My favourite part of the holiday season is all of the homemade treasures, and now my son loves it just as much as me ☺️

We are almost finished the final touches on our handmade nature clay snowflake decorations. They were supposed to be gifts but I love them so much that I don’t think I can part with them 😂

What’s your favourite part of the holiday season?

Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas tree 🎄

This morning we had so much fun creating our Christmas tree sensory puzzle to join with and .and.her.trio

If your little ones enjoy sensory puzzles these prompts are always so much fun to look forward to!

Our tree is created from cardboard and cardboard egg cartons. Fillers include:
🎄recycled sensory rice
🎄recycled baubles
🎄Pom poms

I create these for my 2 year old but my 3 year old enjoys them even more! He was so happy with his result today. What do you think?

I can’t wait to head over to to see the others!

Exploring our winter nature treasures 🍂

We love collecting treasures while outside and decided to freeze a few to isolate and examine each one in ice.

A simple activity for little ones, especially those who like ice play!
