May is mental health awareness month and today, I'm kicking it off by sharing a bit of my self-care routine. From taking a personal day yesterday to connecting with colleagues, swimming, trying new recipes, and enjoying a rainy walk with my pup, it was a day filled with recharging activities. Have you tried hot and cold cycling? I'm really loving it.

Finding your path through loss can be a deeply personal journey. If you're looking for a supportive community to share that journey with, we are here for you. Our Adult Grief Therapy Group, 'Navigating Grief in Nature,' offers a unique experience to find solace among the trees and tranquility of the outdoors.

๐ŸŒฒ Led by skilled therapists, our group sessions provide a blend of evidence-based approaches within the calming embrace of nature's arms. We focus on the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of healing, offering strategies to cope with grief while surrounded by the serenity of the natural world.

I used to start all my days in a panic, running late, rushing the kid to daycare, and getting across the city for work. Now I choose slow mornings. I like to set clients or meetings for 9 am onwards, as this allows me to have an easy morning and I can take my time getting into the day. Even if it's just a quiet 30 minutes before the hustle starts, I encourage you to try and slow down for a moment in the morning (start with your weekends if it feels too hard to add to your work week). Your nervous system will thank you ๐Ÿฉท

I have a training today where I had to pick a picture that represents why I'm drawn to therapy (more generally) and more specifically, why nature-based therapy.

So I picked this beauty from November โ™ฅ๏ธ

I think of sunrises in this way that nothing stays dark forever, we always get some reprieve from the night. Sunrises represent therapy for me because as a therapist I work from a strength-based perspective and lean into a client's ability to find the good within. People can't always do that, so I can be a little bit of their sunrise and then once it's really bright they can start to see it too.

Then when I think of what draws me to nature-based therapy, I immediately think of the ocean. I think of how healing the ocean can be. The ocean is so vast and beautiful and for me sitting and listening to the waves is such a calming experience, walking into the water reminds me that it's okay to feel, everything I feel, and when I float in the ocean it reminds me that there is something so much bigger than me that wants to wrap me up and protect me, but can also be dangerous if I fight it. The way people talk about if you get caught in a current reminds me of our emotions. If you fight the current, you are going to struggle to safety and risk drowning, but if you relax and let the current take you where it must, you will get to a space where you can swim again. If that's not exactly like our emotions I don't know what is.

Yess!

How many times have you avoided doing something because it felt impossible? How many times have you ignored your passion or dreams because they were way out of reach? Or my usual...how many times have you put off basic tasks because there were so many and it felt too overwhelming, so where do you start?

Baby steps are an amazing way to tackle the impossible ๐Ÿฉท

I have been trying to find myself through writing again, so when I am having low feelings I've been grabbing my journal. It can be hard to look deep into yourself and pick apart those feelings, but it can also be extremely helpful.

It's okay to feel, even when the feelings hurt. We can be so quick to get out of the uncomfortable feelings that we don't always allow ourselves the time to process and move through them. I hope you hold space for yourself next time you feel sad. You can always try to write about what you are feeling ๐Ÿ˜‰โค๏ธ
