We would like to Welcome Kristen Monea to BCI as our new Massage Therapist joining our Performance Medicine Rehabilitation Team.

Kristen is a is a dedicated Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) who graduated with honours from MacEwan University’s 2200-hour Massage Therapy program Specializing in therapeutic massage, deep tissue, trigger point therapy, fascial decompression, sports massage, and Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), helping clients manage chronic pain, recover from acute injuries, and support post-surgical rehabilitation.

A longstanding member of the Massage Therapist Association of Alberta, Kristen brings over 22 years of clinical experience. She combines her elite sports background with a strong commitment to ongoing education to create customized treatment plans that address the root cause of discomfort and support long-term health and mobility.

Outside the clinic, Kristen maintains an active lifestyle that includes snowboarding, trail running, hiking, mountain biking, and anything that gets her and her family into the mountains.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Dr. Benson has arrived for the Milano Cortina Olympic Games, where he will be serving as Team Doctor for Team Canada in Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Luge, Curling & Biathlon. He is also part of Canadian Olympic Committee Mission Staff.

This is a remarkable honor and a true reflection of his expertise, dedication, and commitment to elite athlete care. From our clinic to the world stage, we couldn’t be more excited to cheer him on.

Kerri completed a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree at the University of Western Ontario, Diploma in Sports Injury Management at Sheridan College, and is a Certified Athletic Therapist with extensive experience working with high performance athletes (football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and rugby). She has worked with University Varsity athletes since 2001 and was a member of the Waterpolo Canada Senior Men’s Integrated Support Team from 2011-2017.

Kerri has extensive experience in musculoskeletal injury and sport concussion clinical assessment and treatment. She is a strong believer in addressing the body as a whole and has taken continuing education courses including Foundations of Reconditioning as well as manual therapy techniques including Neural Manipulation, Visceral Manipulation and Craniosacral Therapy to address the whole body when treating both acute and chronic injuries.

Meet our founder Dr. Brian Benson 🩺🧠

Introducing Dr. Benson, a leading figure in sports medicine and athlete health! With a Bachelor of Physical Education (Hons) in Exercise Physiology, a Master’s and PhD in Epidemiology, and an MD. He completed a Family Medicine Residency, earning a CCFP designation, along with an advanced certificate in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) and a Sport Medicine Fellowship, all from the University of Calgary. 🏅

Dr. Benson is actively involved in several prominent concussion and health safety committees. He plays key roles in the Canadian Hockey League’s Concussion Management Committee, the Western Hockey League’s Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee, and Own the Podium’s Sport Medicine Advisory Council, among others. His commitment to athlete safety also extends to the Hotchkiss Brain Institute’s Traumatic Brain Injury NeuroTeam and the NHL/NHLPA Concussion Working Group (ex-officio). As a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Clinical Assistant Professor in Family Medicine at the University of Calgary, Dr. Benson contributes to cutting-edge research in sport related concussion. 🧠

His extensive clinical experience includes serving as Head Team Physician for Luge Canada, Canada Ski Cross, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton and Alpine Canada. He has been the Head Team Physician for numerous National Men’s Ice Hockey Teams, representing Canada in prestigious events like the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, Under-18 World Championships, World Junior Championships, and Men’s World Championships. Dr. Benson will also be a physician for Team Canada serving several teams at the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano/Cortina. 🏒🏆

Dr. Benson provides sport medicine and concussion consulting services to many National and Provincial Sport Organizations. He is also a member of the NHL/NHLPA Second Medical Opinion Physician List, ensuring that athletes receive the best care possible.

With an unwavering passion for improving athlete health and safety, Dr. Benson continues to make a significant impact in the world of sports! 💪✨
