The experiences of Autistic and neurodivergent women are unique in that many women are misdiagnosed or missed entirely through the diagnostic process until later in life.

We’re thrilled to offer a new group opportunity designed specifically for Autistic and neurodivergent adults (18+) who identify as women or who connect with experiences of womanhood.*

Together, we'll explore:
➡️ Autism and gender differences
➡️ How these things affect presentation, diagnosis, and stereotypes, and
➡️ How we can remove barriers and stereotypes.

Join us:
Tuesday, March 17
6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
In-person at The Ability Hub (300, 3820 24 Ave NW)

Please note: this is not intended to be a therapy group, but rather, a supportive, non-clinical space to discuss and share ideas, lived experiences, and connect meaningfully with others.

*Participants who are non-binary and other 2SLGBTQ+ identities and expressions are welcome. Our intention is that this is a safe space where attendees are able to share openly without explanation, justification, or judgement.

In fact, communication across neurotypes can be considered a form of cross-cultural communication.

In the next social communication workshop, we're going to talk about the differences in these communication styles, and how you can participate fully in conversation even if there's differences.

Join us:

Today, in recognition of Freedom to Read Week (February 22 – 28), Calgary Public Library CEO Sarah Meilleur presented Mayor Jeromy "Pathfinder" Farkas and Council with two books: the frequently challenged novel "The Giver" by Lois Lowry and "On Book Banning: Or How the New Censorship Consensus Trivializes Art and Undermines Democracy" by Ira Wells.

"The Giver" has faced challenges for its themes, including depictions of euthanasia and questions around belief systems. At its heart, the novel explores self-discovery, choice, and the freedom to shape one’s own future.

"On Book Banning: Or How the New Censorship Consensus Trivializes Art and Undermines Democracy" offers insight into how and why books are challenged, the broader conversations around censorship, and the impact these actions can have.

Calgary Public Library is proud to provide a space for open discussion, encourage diverse perspectives, and promote continuous learning in our community.
