What a fantastic Mardi Gras 2026 celebration we had!

Our community was full of music, laughter, and delicious Southern flair! Residents enjoyed an incredible menu featuring Gumbo-style soup, Classic Southern Chopped Salad, Shrimp Po’ Boy Burgers, Muffuletta, and a King Cheesecake Bar that was absolutely divine!

The fun didn’t stop there...we put our knowledge to the test with “Name That Tune” and Mardi Gras Jeopardy, followed by an afternoon of toe-tapping entertainment from an amazing live Jazz Band that truly stole the show!

Days like this remind us how special it is to celebrate together. Thank you to everyone who made it such a joyful event!

As we get closer to Valentine's Day this love story is too good not to repost. 59 years and still going strong! Thanks Betty and Dieter for sharing with us.

Prominence Way Retirement Community Love Stories.

Love in the Arctic!

Dieter was working in the aviation industry and was posted in a variety of Arctic locations until he settled in to work in Yellowknife. Betty is from Adelaide, Australia and when she was 12 years old, she had a dream to become a Nurse AND work in “the land of the midnight sun”. On February 22, 1966 her dream came true and landed in Yellowknife.

Invited out by colleagues for dinner to a local restaurant, Betty was introduced to their friend Dieter. They immediately became friends which turned in to dating. 7 months later, Dieter was offered a transfer to Peace River as the Charter Base Manager at Northward Aviation. Although Betty was very excited for Dieter it also meant she a decision to make. Does she stay in Yellowknife and live her life without Dieter or does she take the chance and move with him to Peace River?

It actually came down to a “crunch time moment” for Betty and she followed her heart. She jumped onto the very last direct flight from Yellowknife to Peace River! That same evening while on the drive from the airport, they were stopped at a traffic light at the railway bridge. With the bells ringing and the lights flashing (only in their hearts as the stop light did not actually have any lights or bells) they had a moment where they were “stuck for conversation”. Dieter turns to Betty and proposed marriage!

Two weeks later they travelled to meet Dieter’s family. His Grandmother was so excited and happy that Dieter had found Betty she asked, what their wedding plans were. Both excited for their next chapter, they elated a reply "we will be getting married next week!" On December 10, 1966 they were married at a small gathering in Edmonton.

Congratulations for 56 years of marriage Betty and Dieter!

A great time was had last night as we celebrated our residents at our 7th annual Snowflake Gala. The evening began with a cheerful happy hour complete with Christmas songs played on the piano. Our residents enjoyed a beautifully prepared holiday dinner, then joined in for Christmas caroling with our talented singing group. It was a warm and joyful way to welcome the season together at Prominence Way Retirement Community.

We are shouting it from the rooftops because our Christmas Market was a huge success. To bring this festive day to life, our residents whipped through eighteen pounds of butter, twenty five pounds of flour, and heaps of fruit and minced meat for our residents baking table with shortbread cookies, pies, tarts, squares and more. All that hard work paid off in the most incredible way.

Thanks to the amazing support of our residents, resident family members, and guests, we raised $5000 in cash donations & collected 243 pounds of food for the Canadian Veterans Services Society Food Bank. We are proud to stand behind such an important cause.

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful vendors who join us year after year: Bella Cards, Crafted with Love, Jan Wittstrom, Style in Motion, Tricia Voll Photography, Arbonne, Treasures, Cabi Clothing, The Paper Sisters, Pattersons Woodworking, Tupperware, and Rae Dunphy Aromatiques.

Today, our community at Prominence Way gathered to honour Remembrance Day.

Together, we paused to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who served and those who continue to serve to protect our freedom.

Our residents took part in the ceremony by reading poems and stories that reminded us of the strength, resilience, and bravery of our veterans. It was a meaningful time of remembrance and reflection for all.

We will always remember.
