When patient care finishes, the work begins.

On average I (and just about every physio I know) spend an average of 10+ hours/ week on:

✍️ Chart notes
💻 Specialist referrals
📝 Medical/ Insurance reports
📞 Emails/ Calls with patients
📧 Communication with coaches & other practitioners
🦴 Imaging requisitions
💵 Invoicing/accounting

Imagine my surprise when the career I chose partially to avoid a desk job ended up including copious amounts of computer work. I’ve had to get creative with my “work stations”

If you’re experiencing the side effects of sitting, come see me! We will find solutions together

🔥 How many of us just jump on the wall and do “easy climbs” or go right to the hang board to “warm up”?

Your fingers might be small — but the load they take isn’t. The reality is your fingers should be warm before you even start to hang. Here’s why👇

💨 Increased Blood Flow — Aerobic movement (like rowing) raises your core temp and sends oxygen + nutrients to the small muscles and tendons in your fingers.

🧠 Better Neuromuscular Control — A warm system = faster nerve signals + better coordination = higher power production, and fewer awkward grips.

🧩 Improved Tissue Elasticity — Warm muscles, tendons, pulleys and ligaments become more pliable, helping them stretch under stress instead of tear.

🦴 Joint Lubrication — Increased synovial fluid flow keeps joints moving easily and safely.

🔥 Bottom line: Warm core = warm hands = stronger, safer climb.

When we are climbing outside (particularly in the Bow Valley with our long approaches) we get warm by hauling our packs. But for gym climbing, cardio is key!

The rowing machine is optimal because it is:
🚣 a full body exercise so all parts get moving
🚣‍♀️ requires grip without putting too much demand through the hands

That ache at the front of your knee after running or skiing? 👇

Knee pain isn’t always a knee problem.
Tight quads can tug on the kneecap and cause that front-of-knee ache runners and skiers know too well.

Regional interdependency means everything in your body is connected — what happens in one area affects another.

👉 A stiff ankle can change how your knee moves.

When your ankles can’t move, your body borrows motion from nearby joints.

If that motion comes from a region meant to stay stable — like the knee — tissues that provide that stability (the meniscus and ligaments like the ACL or MCL) can get overloaded and injured.

We have all seen that climber, street performer, dancer, aerial artist or individual that takes our breath away. Why? Because seeing someone lost in their body, fully absorbed in their movement, is magnetic.

You don’t have to be an elite athlete to do spectacular things. It’s about tapping in to what feels good, trying new things, and feeling it to the movements feed your soul.

How do you choose to move?

“When in doubt, get out” is my mantra. It has never lead me astray.

Having an injury that keeps us from doing what we love in the great outdoors can be agonizing. I’ve been there. I get it.

Often an injury forces us to slow down and find different ways to indulge in the natural world. It invites a new level of appreciation. It forces us to be still and drink in our surroundings as we rebuild our physical capabilities.

I am here to help you rebuild. And as we walk your rehab road, you may find your coming back stronger than ever.

If this sounds right for you, connect with me through the link in bio or DM! Until then it’s time to get out and get some green!

This past week I had the unbelievable privilege to attend the Canadian Climbing Medicine Symposium in Squamish, BC!

It is going to take me weeks to unpack all the knowledge shared with us by these giants in climbing medicine. It is rare to find a conference where every single speaker is not only informative but deeply entertaining. I was riveted the entire time!

Profound thanks to:
💪 “One move too many” was one of the first books in my climbing rehab library. Deep thanks for ACT too!
💪 called on us to be aware of the issues and injuries specific to youth climbers
💪 is a powerhouse PT that blew my mind with her rehab insights
💪 .elsheikh spearheaded this event AND presented on epiphyseal fracture management 🤩
💪 Dr. Herb Von Schroeder gave quite literally the best presentation on climbing injuries of the wrists that I’ve ever seen
💪 contribution to climbing rehab through his book “Climb Injury-free”, courses and mass volume of digestible content has shaped how I treat. He never disappoints
💪 Dr. Marietta Buse, delved into prolotherapy as a viable adjunct treatment AND helped organize this event
💪 Dr. Steven Roy, a Calgary-based Dr, presented on cancer-related considerations with climbing
💪 got me really excited about how ultrasound can inform our practice
💪 blew my mind with his insights on how to enhance climbing performance. I can’t wait to read “Climbology” and incorporate his concepts into my practice
💪 .strong Steve Bechtel revolutionized how I see strength progression and training in a very entertaining way 😉
💪 Tyler Nelson completely debunked hangboard training (spoiler alert: not as beneficial as we may have thought)
💪 Eric Horst book “Training For Climbing” shapes how we all train for this sport

It’s been a stellar week of 🏕️ 🧗 🏊‍♀️ 🚵‍♀️ 🥾 I can’t wait to come home and share all I’ve learned with the community! See you tomorrow!

It’s official! I am certified and registered to order imaging (radiographs/X-rays, ultrasound, private MRI) for my patients!

Instead of having to send patients back to their doctors to request a requisition form for imaging, adding time and multiple cumbersome steps, I am now able to directly provide patients with a requisition form when imaging is warranted.

I’m thrilled to be able to streamline and expedite care for my patients in this way!

I recently had the great privilege to take a multipitch refresher course with .weeks . I was blown away by her organization, ability to communicate and teach complex skills, and to create the opportunities to “fail” safely so we could learn from our mistakes. She followed up the practical, on-the-rock course with an impeccably designed reference manual to review all the material from the day.

I have been multipitching for years but one day in the mountains with Shy taught me how to do things more safely, more efficiently, and how to confidently navigate the “oh s*!t” situations that inevitably arise. She leveled-up my climbing for sure! Stellar experience and 100% worth it

A Physio doing her Physio exercises!

Sometimes my exercises happen at 5am. Sometimes it’s with a sick baby laying on my chest. Sometimes it’s in bed before I fall asleep.

When I give patients exercises I am always thinking “how can I help this exercise fit into their day?” It’s not always easy, but to gain on the positive effects of a Physio treatment, they are necessary.

Thank you and for the tune ups!
