In 2013, at the age of 42, I successfully completed my first "last chance" half marathon, finishing the 21.1km distance in 1 hour and 59 minutes.
As someone who has consistently prioritized physical fitness and activity, I was eager to test my endurance once again 12 years later.
This year, at age 54, I ran the "last chance" half marathon for a second time, achieving a personal best time of 1 hour and 44 minutes.
Notably, despite the passage of time and the associated physical changes, including the growth of a beard and grey hairs, I was able to run 15 minutes faster than my previous attempt.
This experience serves as a powerful reminder that it is never too late to adopt an active lifestyle and take proactive steps to mitigate the effects of aging, while also prioritizing injury prevention and overall enjoyment of life.
If I can do it, you can do it.
Get up and get out there. You got this.
