We have been asked when children should have their first eye exam several times over the last month. It's an important question! The answer: between 6 and 9 months.

This is when your doctor of optometry assesses your child’s visual abilities, ensuring the eyes are properly aligned, are developing normally and are free of congenital cataracts. They also detect and treat eye conditions such as strabismus (crossed eyes) and amblyopia (lazy eyes) before irreversible damage is done. If a condition is caught early, there is a much better chance of preventing or even reversing damage. These exams are covered by Alberta Health. https://bit.ly/2FH5edx
