Getting your second dose of is important to achieve optimal and longer-lasting protection against severe outcomes.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) has updated its recommendations on the interchangeability of the COVID-19 vaccines for second doses, following studies from Germany, the U.K, and Spain.

If you received a first dose of (COVISHIELD), NACI recommends you receive either the same
vaccine or an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna) for your second dose.

NACI’s panel of experts issued this recommendation after reviewing several recent studies reporting on the safety of a mixed COVID-19 vaccine schedule, and one recent study reporting on the immune responses produced from a mixed vaccine schedule.

Provinces and territories are ultimately responsible for designing and delivering their immunization programs and how best to incorporate NACI guidance into their plans.
