Gary McKenzie and Nancy McGuinness say leaving a gift in their Will is about building a foundation for the future — an investment in the health and potential of generations of children to come.

"If you have a good foundation, what gets built on top of it has a better chance of enduring,” says McKenzie. “In a sense, we're the foundation and whatever is to come is going to be built on top of this.”

Their gift, and others like it, moves medicine forward for children. It will fuel groundbreaking research to help specialists better understand what makes kids sick, predict and prevent health issues, advance diagnoses to be faster and more accurate and develop new therapies tailored to the needs of children as they develop and grow. Plans are advancing for an inpatient expansion and a new Centre for Research & Innovative Care at Alberta Children’s Hospital, supported by an initial $2 million investment from the Government of Alberta (announced in its February 2025 budget) and an additional $2 million from the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation to define scope, budget, and timelines for both projects.

Hockey Kids Helping Kids is your Hockey Calgary team’s chance to show teamwork and leadership off the ice by supporting the 100,000 kids and families who rely on the Alberta Children’s Hospital every year. Kids like Jayce.
