Despite facing what I hope was the hardest season of my life while recovering from a medical trauma, I’ve come out the other side with so many endearing memories. Thanks again to my amazing friends, family, nature, and my sweet new pup, Molly.

A huge thank-you to my best friends, Katelyn and Alexia, and to my family for holding the torch on those tough days ⚡️Here are a few of the moments that brought light along the way. ✨

I’m beyond grateful to my clients, friends, and family for supporting me as I started my home-based business in Haysboro this year.
Saying goodbye to my time at the clinic was bittersweet, but “doing less” has become my guiding motto through recovery. I’m learning that rest is the real work more often than we'd think, that slowing down and being present holds our peace.

On the bright side, I also learned a lot about "yin deficiency" and "liver rising" in TCM firsthand, courtesy of medical trauma and losing too much blood/draining my yin (inside joke for any tcm nerds🤣). Some days, breathing, eating, and sleeping well truly is enough, and we are loved regardless by those who count. 😉 Rebuilding yin takes a long time and isn't something that can be rushed.

This season has offered humility and reminded me of what really matters: self-care, boundaries, slowing down to feel, asking for help, and trusting the process. Healing has taught me that it’s okay to receive support from the right people and that timing always unfolds perfectly. The universe truly does send angels along the way to help us replenish, heal, and remember we’re never alone on the journey.

📖This year Ill be finishing up a deep core training for my own recovery, which will also be a helpful tool in my practice for those recovering from conditions like abdominal surgery, pregnancy, disc herniation, prolapse, hernias, diastasis re**us abdominus!

Little home practice update!
Meet Molly. She will be roaming around the house during massage visits, looking for food and cuddles. I adopted her a few weeks ago from an acreage who had to rehome her. She is settling into her new home, working past some separation anxiety since the move still but improving a lot and doing well and easy to train with everything else. Overall, she has such a calm, loving temperament and is a great running/hiking buddy! She is a German Wirehaired Pointer, so very low shedding but not hypoallergenic, so please let me know if that is a concern, and I can accommodate more during your appointment. She knows the massage office room is off limits to maintain an allergy free office space.

Hi friends and clients,

I’m happy to share that my online booking is now open again! I've been slowly feeling more like myself after what turned out to be a much longer recovery than I expected after surgery. It’s been a challenging journey, but one that taught me a lot. I hope to be a more empathetic ear to those who’ve walked a similar path.

I’m looking forward to getting back to work, both in the clinic and at my home practice in my new location in Haysboro.

A heartfelt thank-you to my incredible friends and family who stood by me through all of this. I feel truly lucky to be surrounded by such supportive and kind people 💛

I look forward to reconnecting with all of you soon!

Hot Stone Massage

Complimentary Hot Stones can be added onto your treatments on request!

What is it?
This style of massage utilizes smooth, round basalt and Jade hot stones to apply heat to the skin on the receiver. These stones are heated by a water immersion 'hot stone heater' to ensure safety in temperature when applied. I enjoy using hot stones to warm up tissues and muscles before working deeper or for promoting relaxation in a more gentle massage. My training with Alix at Muscle Release Massage Clinic taught me how to utilizes hot stones to be used in deep tissue techniques like trigger point holds and movement release!

I worked with a counsellor who asked me what memories I had of being in peace?
The memories that surfaced were those in nature and in ashrams practicing yoga or meditation.

This prompt is what led me to return to Yasodhara Ashram in the Kootenays this fall. I felt I needed to remember what a strong sense of peace felt like in my body and prioritize that in my life more. I also had a natural incline to deepen my sadhana practice as I've had glimpses of what lies beneath in the unconscious, but I was fearful of the unknown.

The insights and teachings at the ashram that Swami Sivananda Radha brought back from India to share in the West have helped me feel self empowered to connect to Spirit. Mantra, Dream Yoga, Divine Light Invocation and the Journaling reflection are the practices I felt the most drawn to at this time and they have helped me tremendously to reflect on; What kind of person I want to be? What qualities? What things am I doing in my life daily that reflects that?

There is a very practical, approachable method they work with the yogic teachings. My first time at the ashram 5 years ago, I resisted this western approach because my background studying in India was heavy on sanskrit scriptures, and culturally, they used myth and stories to convey meaning in an esoteric way. I thought this Western cultural interpretation would actually limit me from the wisdom in the teachings, I had an aversion to it funny enough! This time at the ashram I allowed myself to recieve, open to see it as a western cultural lense which Swami Radha had the intention to use to make it easier for people like myself growing up in the west to access the teachings. I see my younger pride, ego and naivety with eyes of compassion now. I've observed the tricks of the mind as I age and know how when learning something, how easy it is to get excited and become arrogant, but that pride doesn't lead to helping myself or others. It actually prolongs suffering. Aging is a natural process we all are faced with to gain wisdom from. Looking back on my younger self with humility and compassion helps me have the ability to have more compassion for others🙏😽

Autumn in 5 element theory is in the Metal element. The pair of organs are lungs(yin) and the large intestine (yang).
In Acupressure, on the emotional level, the metal element has to do with openness, or when imbalanced, too much rigidity. It involves taking in the new and letting go of the old stuff that we no longer need.
Often, letting go brings up feelings of grief and sadness naturally. It's better out than in!

Expressing these emotions, for myself, this season means grieving beliefs I had about people, myself, or situations that were falsehoods or illusions. Letting myself be confronted with the true reality of the present moment and sit compassionately with that. As a result, letting go of those belief systems that became apparent they were no longer serving me then allows the quality of "openness" to the new to enter into my life.
It seems to be a good time to clear away any stuff that is draining your chi unecessarily, important before coming into winter when we are relying on our reserves, much like animals in hibernation. It is a good time to get real with yourself about things that truly add and nourish your life or take away from it. Sometimes, the best medicine is letting it go and letting it be as something so much better is waiting once that threshold is crossed.

I moved back to Alberta, where I spent most of my time growing up. I was apprehensive about moving but have been pleasantly surprised! Enjoying the open prairie skies, mountains so close by and the blunt sense of humour here. The cost of living and housing is a lot more palatable, the main reason I moved. Liking it, though my heart misses the ocean, clients and friends back on the coast 💙💦 Visits to come next year!

I am currently training in Year 1 of 3 of the Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) Training. I am happy to be offering mini sessions to the public via zoom or in person for free/by donation while I am studying. Trades are also welcome!💛

🦋 Somatic Experiencing® - What is it? What to expect from a session?

SE™ is a body-oriented therapeutic model that was originally developed by Peter Levine to treat trauma. It is a strong method for resolving symptoms of trauma and relieving chronic stress.

What is Trauma?
“Nature has instilled in all animals, including humans, a nervous system capable of restoring equilibrium. Trauma happens when the organism is strained beyond its adaptational capacity to regulate states of arousal. The (traumatized) nervous system is disorganized, breaks down and cannot reset itself." (Peter Levine)

SE™ practitioners are trained in how to track the nervous system (see polyvagal theory), this allows them to carefully avoid retraumatizing/triggering clients and help people to develop and employ self-regulating strategies. A key part to self-regulation is "pendulating" between sensations associated with the trauma and those that are a resourced source of comfort and strength. SE™ is a method to help people learn how to become “resourced” (supported and strong enough) to work through the energy from the unresolved trauma and allow that energy to be discharged. Without creating strong access to the “healing vortex” (aka resourcing), there may be retraumatization. This containment practice with resource techniques can be a tool to tell if you are within your growth edge or also called "The Window of Tolerance" of the nervous system.

🌸During a Session: A session can look different depending on the client’s needs, present nervous system state and prior practice with resourcing. The SE™ practitioner’s role is to help monitor the body and assure the client doesn’t go too far into a trauma vortex or trigger. This provides safety in the room by having a witness observe and check that the nervous system state is within the client’s tolerance. SE™ sessions may include gentle hands on touch by the practitioner or client, movement and voicing body sensations and images that come up. In a session I might request tracking and describing sensations you are experiencing or images as you talk about a subject. We may practice orienting to the environment, finding resourceful/safe objects for the body’s senses to utilize in the present. We may try some SE™ “exercises,” for example stimulating different nervous system parts by recalling memories. SE™ sessions are offered seated or on a massage table, with the client fully clothed.
