Are you newly pregnant and waiting to pull the trigger on hiring a doula? Honestly it’s never too early! Here are 5 benefits I’ve found clients to receive when they hire doula support early on in their pregnancy.

1. Relationship building. When you hire a doula early on, you have a chance to build a relationship. Your doula won’t be another stranger in the room when you give birth and they will be someone you’re comfortable with.
2. Long term planning. This gives us a chance to plan your birth and postpartum experience in a chill and unrushed way. Time also gives us a change to be flexible in this planning and discuss and consider options.
3. Guidance through appointments. Having an expert with you through this journey gives you access to information and support so you can confidently make prenatal decisions alongside your care team.
4. Time to pay down the fee. Sometimes finances are a barrier to doula support. Hiring a doula early means you have time to develop a payment plan and slowly pay down your fee. Chat with your potential doula during a meet and greet and see if it’s an option.
5. Emotional support. This may be the most beneficial thing about hiring a doula early. Having access to their emotional support during the ups and downs of all 3 trimesters is a gift and a reminder that your doula is just a call or text away when things are tough or deserving of celebration!🎉

Are you curious about how a doula could support you during all areas of the perinatal journey? DM or email me for more info ❤️

I was blessed with an inbox full of testimonials the past week or two. They’re intended to go on my new website (I’ll be sure to share when that launches) but I just had to share these beautiful words from
Sancia is a dear friend who trusted me to support her as a brand new doula. I’ll always be blown away by the trust I receive from clients.

Absolutely humbled to announce a new package offering. After having many clients ask about combining birth and postpartum support, I’m finally able to share a package packed with value.

This type of support feels so well rounded. During our prenatal sessions we’ll discuss many things birth related but we’ll also go over your postpartum plan. You have my on-call support at 38 weeks (though I’m very often reachable in the weeks before), my unwavering birth support during you labour and birth, and my support in immediate postpartum. Then we will book 3 postpartum shifts each about 3 hours long. You have the flexibility to book these whenever you’re needing extra help and it doesn’t have to be in the first couple weeks if you don’t need it. Beyond those 3 shifts, if availability allows, we can book additional postpartum hours at my regular postpartum fee.

I’m blessed to be able to offer this service to my clients and I know you’ll see the immense value it is to receive such well-rounded perinatal care.

As always my DM’s and my email are open for any questions and inquiries❤️

I’ve been having this conversation with a lot of moms lately who are awaiting the arrival of their second child

They feel very unprepared for labour, birth, and breastfeeding. And while it’s totally ok to do refreshers on those things, I try hard to remind them that the second birth is different. I use the analogy that it’s like muscle memory. If they were able to find coping mechanisms, breath, and at the very least-pieces of relaxation during labour, they will be able to do that again. Often quicker and easier even without the same prep that they did the first time around.

If you didn’t find those elements and/or your labour or birth was laced with some trauma, then hiring trusted support and building your birth team is one crucial step to preparing for a second birth. Working through those negative aspects with a trauma-informed therapist is ideal and then just spend your pregnancy focussing on finding moments of deep relaxation or breath awareness. One of my personal favourite ways to do this is using guided meditations-easily found on YouTube or Spotify, choose a short one, and do it right before falling asleep. Another great option is to build in ways to find breath-choose moments throughout the day where you can slowly breathe even just for 5 breaths. I did this during my toddlers nap time while cuddling her to sleep. The bonus to this technique is that very often children use us as their regulation tool and will mimic our breath.

The biggest takeaway here though is please don’t stress about preparing. You have your hands full and thankfully you can rely on that muscle memory-mind body connection❤️

Anyone else catching big time summer feels?

After a busy May (think anniversary, birthdays, an Ontario trip, and spring semester) I am gearing up for some summer births. June and July are full, and I’ll be taking August off which means I’m now opening up my calendar for fall babies. If you’re looking for birth, postpartum, or feeding support for the months of September, October, or November, now is a great time to inquire. Email and DM are currently the best ways to get in touch as I’m revamping my website❤️🌹

Now let’s all get out and enjoy those blooms, they’re fleeting!

You know that feeling of overwhelm, when you’re home, the nurses aren’t there, your baby’s crying but you can’t get them to latch properly. Your milk is changing and your b***s aren’t sure if you just had one baby or 3 so they fill up enough for 3 just in case. Your ice pad has melted and leaked on the couch or the staples on your incision keep catching on the mesh un**es. Your phone is blowing up with congratulations and excited offers to hold the baby. You have a cupboard full of bottles, a drawer full of soothers, and you truly just don’t know what to do because you’d like to breastfeed but you don’t know how and you keep hearing that these things will interfere with it.

I’d like to introduce a new offering. This support is specific to feeding (whatever way you are or want to feed your baby) and is separate from postpartum support. This feeding support is not medical and not judgemental. My goal is to help you reach your feeding goals-whatever they may look like. You are able to access my library of books on infant feeding, my big resource list, and my knowledge and experience of the tips and tricks that have worked for the dozens of families I’ve supported.
With the ok from your provider staff, I can join you at appointments where I can help put their advice into practice at home and be an extra set of ears to help remember the little things that are often forgotten.

Lastly, one of the most valuable parts of this support is the emotional and patient reassurance. To have someone sit with you through a feed, help you get comfortable, point out the signs that you’ve got a good latch and remind you of how amazing you’re both doing is often the missing piece when it comes to feeding.

I’ve done my best to make this as affordable and accessible as possible. Shifts will be booked at a minimum of 2 hours at a time and vouchers are available if you have a new parent in your life you’d like to gift some support to.

For more info or inquiries, please feel free to send me a DM or email rosebudbirthcollective@gmail.com.

The other day I was babysitting my nephew for a couple hours. While holding him and helping him sleep for a nap my husband smiled and looked at me and said “so you are up all night taking care of a baby (overnight postpartum shift), sleep for a bit, take care of him, and then spend all day taking care of our kids?” And I replied with, “yes, I am living the dream!!”

I’ve always cared for babies and young children. Pretty much my entire life (cough, big sister, cough). I went to college and got a diploma in Early Childhood Education. I took a special interest in infant care and development. I love kids, but I especially love infants. I don’t know exactly why it took me this long to pursue postpartum work because it makes perfect sense that I would love it.

February is looking like it’ll be quite full with postpartum support but I should have some availability in March. Get in touch through the tabs in my bio if you’d like to chat about birth or postpartum doula support ❤️ hope everyone has a great weekend!

Postpartum support can look like this:

-Food. The nourishing kind. Homemade, warm, full of nutrients. Think stews, soups, sandwiches and baked goods 🤤
-Your doula drawing up a hot bath, salts and herbs included, where you relax deeply while your baby naps
-Help with getting that perfect latch. Emphasis on skin to skin and comfort
-Endless encouragement. Your doula being unafraid to hear and see it all and be there with you through it
-Your doula attending appointments with you (with pre-approval of course!). Having an extra set of non-sleep deprived ears, forming professional relationships with your team, and making sure that support carries on from clinic to home.

How were you held during your postpartum period?

My dear friends, I’ve decided to release my full range of services to you.

I’ve worked to try and build packages that are equally beneficial and functional. Giving clients some options and flexibility to find what support they need most and best fits their family.

An additional option I have is the opportunity to contribute to the Rosebud Birth Support Fund. Making doulas more accessible to our vulnerable birthing families and giving community members a chance to fund and care for one another. *Please note that we are not a certified charity at this point, so your donations are unfortunately not tax deductible.

My birth and postpartum monthly availability is open but limited so please get in touch if professional and nurturing support is something on your radar.

As always my DM’s and emails are always open for any questions or inquiries. Thank you all for your kind support!💌

Did you know your doula can support you at prenatal appointments?

Today I had the pleasure of attending a midwife appointment with my client (who just so happens to be my adorable sister❤️)

If your partner is unable to attend your appointments with you, you’re allowed to invite your doula! So what does prenatal appointment doula support look like? Well your doula gets to meet your provider and become acquainted, there’s a lot of bag and paperwork holding for you, and they may also remind you of the questions you had written down.

Having a doula doesn’t mean you are only supported during labour, the prenatal support can be so valuable too!

I’ve been quiet for a while here, but I’ve come today to weight in on the convo.

I was introduced to the idea of “support is best” in regards to infant feeding and I loved it. The medical and emotional support I received with my first baby after a traumatic birth and nicu stay was what enabled me to eventually exclusively breastfed and continue on for 18 months. I figured, yea, support IS best when it comes to feeding.

This week however, Milk And Hannah]] talked about the fact that “support is best” is bullsh*t and she opened my eyes. “What you’re really saying is that people who formula feed, wouldn’t have chosen formula if they had access to support and education, which ACTUALLY implies that you find people that formula feed uneducated and this is f*cking false.” “Formula is a top tier choice.”

🎤 🤯

“Support is best” puts the pressure of accessing support ON the feeding person and NOT on the community where it should be. As Milk And Hannah]] put it: “that burden is UNFAIR and UNREALISTIC.

We know that infant feeding is complex and individual. It’s influenced and exacerbated but formula industries, lack of community, generational trauma & experiences. Our society and technology give new parents easy access to major opinions, studies, pressure, judgement, and controversy. We know postpartum people are failed by the system and that trickles down to our children too in one way or another. But the implication that “support is best” trumps “fed is best” reeks of underlying judgement and privilege.

As birth workers, it’s not just okay, it’s CRUCIAL, that we evaluate our biases, we continue to keep our minds open, and we adjust our philosophies when faced with new information and perspectives.

Thank you, Milk And Hannah]] for the new perspective and for being such an important voice in this conversation.
