For 50 years, our volunteers have been at the heart of everything we do!

From the early days to today, you’ve shown up, lifted others up, and helped build a more inclusive Alberta—one moment at a time.

These photos are just a glimpse of the impact you’ve made over the years.

To every volunteer who has been part of our journey—thank you for helping us create possibilities for 50 years and counting.

Volunteer Spotlight: Debbie

"I started as a volunteer with Valleyview CP Alberta programs in 2023. My first program was pony and me… an amazing session with a diverse group of children and ponies and horses.

I have been involved with kids and horses for many years, raising my children with horses and leading 4-h programs. My youngest granddaughter has CP and loves horses so it was a perfect fit for me to help out with the program. I am comfortable with both the horses and the children so helped out wherever needed. We typically had 2 to 3 volunteers per child focusing on the child being comfortable, safe and having fun.

Watching the joy on the faces of the children as they learn how to ride and develop confidence is tremendously rewarding. It’s not just their physical skills that improve but their inter personal skills too. I look forward to helping with any of the adaptive programs that come in the future!"

Please join us in the comments and let Debbie know how valued she is!

Every story has the power to shape how we see the world—and during Disability Book Week, we celebrate the voices, experiences, and perspectives of people with disabilities through the pages of incredible books.

Disability Book Week is a time to recognize the importance of authentic representation in literature. For too long, disability has been misunderstood, misrepresented, or overlooked entirely in storytelling. Today, more authors with lived experience are sharing their own narratives—bringing depth, honesty, and diversity to bookshelves everywhere.

Volunteer spotlight: Hayder

Hayder has volunteered for many of our Calgary programs such as; Gleeful Gardening, Early Intervention Therapy, Aqua Therapy and the Rogers Charity Classic.

"Volunteering at CPAA has been an amazing experience, I’ve learned so much and built deep connections with many of the children I’ve worked with. I’ve also developed great relationships with the staff/fellow volunteers, and we’ve shared many laughs along the way. Seeing the children’s excitement and hearing their laughter is what makes this experience truly rewarding"

Please help us show appreciation to Hayder in the comments!

Whether they’re supporting programs, lending their time at events, or helping behind the scenes, their impact reaches far beyond the moments they give—it creates lasting change in the lives of individuals and families across Alberta.
