Sandra was a part of the Choice Memorial team for a year. From the day that I met her, I knew that she would be punctual, dependable, reliable and dedicated. Sandra showed up every day with a positive attitude and was a hard worker. She would never leave the office with a task unfinished. Sandra was the first voice that many of our families heard when they called in for our services. She was always very gentle and kind and reassuring, and made families feel confident that their loved ones would be taken care of. Sandra also brought sweet Gypsy to work every day, which was a nice distraction for all of the staff to get puppy snuggles. We are privileged to have met Sandra, to have had her as a colleague, and to have had her as a friend.

Sandra you will be dearly missed by all of us at Choice Memorial. May you rest in peace.

Had such a great night celebrating Christmas with the staff and their significant others. These people are the most dedicated, loyal, hard working group of people who work day and night to make sure our families are looked after. I am so thankful for each of my staff, and for their partners who support them and allow them to come in early, stay late, and get woken up in the middle of the night when the phones ring.

Thanksgiving has new meaning this year. There were some pretty tough times, but I have been blessed beyond words. New people have entered my life and brought me so much joy. The most amazing blessing is coming in February courtesy of my beautiful daughter and my fabulous son-in-law - it is official - in February I am going to have a grandson! Congratulations Lakeisha and James. I am counting down the days with you!

Today marks three years since we opened the doors at Choice Memorial. When Justin died in December, I looked for some staff to fill his shoes, and I am happy to say the shoes have not only been filled, but overfilled. We continue to serve from the heart, and have been blessed to not only meet and help such wonderful families, but to have many of them become our friends as well.

Name of Royal Canadian Air Force pilot killed in CF-188 crash released

Shortly after 11 a.m. Mountain Standard Time, on November 28, a CF-188 Hornet from 4 Wing Cold Lake crashed inside the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range in Saskatchewan, not far from the Primrose Lake Evaluation Range.

Emergency services from 4 Wing, including 417 Combat Support Squadron, responded to the crash. Tragically, the pilot, Captain Thomas McQueen of Hamilton, Ontario did not survive.

The thoughts and prayers of 4 Wing, the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Armed Forces are with the family, loved ones and friends of Captain McQueen during this difficult time.

A Flight Safety investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the accident.

Colonel Paul Doyle, Commander 4 Wing and CFB Cold Lake:

“We are deeply saddened by this incident and express our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and loved ones of Captain Thomas McQueen. We now turn our attention to providing whatever support we can to his family and to our men and women here in Cold Lake, who are deeply saddened by the loss of Captain McQueen.”

Brigadier-General David Lowthian, Acting Commander, 1 Canadian Air Division:

“On behalf of the men and women of 1 Canadian Air Division, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Captain McQueen. The Royal Canadian Air Force is a tight knit community and we are all mourning the loss of one of our own today.”

Lieutenant-General Mike Hood, Commander, Royal Canadian Air Force:

"‎We have lost a member of our RCAF family, and it hurts. We will support the family of Captain McQueen, and his squadron, to the fullest. And while the investigation determines the cause of this incident, I commend our men and women who through their grief will continue to serve Canada to their fullest. Thomas, we will miss you."
