It’s a heart fact… As we get older, blood pressure (BP) tends to rise along with the risk of stroke and heart disease. That’s why it’s important to know your BP. You can get your BP checked at a local pharmacy or measure it at home with a certified monitor. To learn more, download CVFP’s ‘My BP Screening Guide’ at cvfp.com, Community, link ➡️ https://www.cvfp.com/blog/hypertension-project. If your BP is consistently > 130/90, contact your CVFP health provider.

February is and our Health Team is shining a light on what you can do to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease. Making healthy lifestyle choices, including quitting smoking, eating a healthy and balanced diet, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol levels can have an impact on your heart health.

Beyond healthy choices, cardiovascular disease is also influenced by biological and other risk factors. CVFP supports research that promotes an understanding of heart conditions and helps guide the development of new treatments and prevention approaches.

“I believe that great care starts with listening,” says CVFP Family Physician, Dr. Pauwlina Cyca, PhC., MD. “I see my role not just as a physician, but as a partner—someone who walks alongside patients through all seasons of life."

Dr. Cyca has a unique background in both medicine and pharmacy. She completed her medical degree and residency in Family Medicine through the University of Calgary, where she trained extensively at CVFP and developed a strong foundation in comprehensive primary care. Prior to her medical training, Dr. Cyca practiced as a pharmacist for over 15 years, holding national leadership roles in pharmacy regulation and governance.

It’s in Canada and our Health Team's focus is to bring awareness and understanding around dementia. CVFP is launching a 'Brain Health' program focussed on Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The goal is to help patients understand and adopt behaviours to keep the aging brain healthy - preventing dementia. This program is guided by new evidence that shows individuals can maintain their brain health through proactive measures.
