The support of a Doula looks different within each family.

However, as the support of a doula comes to an end, one thing that should be the same for all families is that they are left feeling empowered & confident in their decisions for the path forward.

💙this post may be triggering 💙

When you lose your baby from miscarriage, stillbirth or at or after birth, your hope of being a parent dies, too.

As a spouse/partner, you have experienced a tremendous loss also. It is common for the partner to keep a strong, supportive presence around the birthing parent while trying to find space for their own grief. Because we all process grief differently, this can be an even more confusing time when trying to figure out how to create space for each of you while holding together, together.

I promise, you do not have to be alone in this. There is support for both of you.

Reach out to your health provider for connections, share your story with those you trust, connect with experienced and trained loss doulas…allow yourself to receive the support you need too 💙

Pregnancy and infant loss is not a temporary trauma. It is not a moment in time or a distant memory.

This month for awareness means more social media posts, more stories shared, more conversations around the trauma and hurt from pregnancy or infant loss. It is an opportunity for others to freely (because sometimes we think we aren’t supposed to) share their stories and feelings, for other parents and family members to see that they are not alone in their loss.

If you are struggling to breath outside of your grief, reach out and find someone who can hold space for you. 💙

It has been 10 years this month since I experienced my own pregnancy loss. And yet today, a sadness came over me that was very unexpected. It was heavy (yes, even after this long) and I needed to take time for it. Sharing and feeling with other parents who have experienced a similar loss has helped me over the years. This post today is one of the ways I helped myself process my feelings.

You are not alone. You don’t have to go through this loss alone. 💙

The benefits of postpartum Doula support has measurable benefits for birthing parents & whole family success.

A postpartum doula will doula your baby and family as a whole. However, their primary role is to ‘doula the mother’, which also translates to ‘doula the birthing person’.

How your postpartum journey looks can depend very much on how your support system looks. There are many doctor appointments & visits in baby’s postpartum. There is a lot of focus on this tiny human and how they are thriving, with much of it consisting of continuous charts on diapers and feeds and sleep for baby. This is so important to the health of baby, and naturally, parents become fixated and focused on this tiny human surviving outside of the womb.
But this 4th trimester is yours too. A postpartum doula supports you, checks in with you and creates space for you. If you are cared for and supported in the most nourishing ways physically, mentally & emotionally, you and your family can thrive together.

Why is a Meet & Greet so valuable to families and Doula’s?

During a Meet & Greet appointment, you and your Doula will discuss what your idea of postpartum support looks like and how your Doula will fill that roll.

Each family travel through postpartum differently and adapt to their new normal in different ways, at a differing pace.

Understanding what your expectations and dreams are for your postpartum period, your Doula should be flexible to change, non-judgmental and willing to adapt to your needs within their Doula-scope.

During a meet & greet, yourselves and your doula will establish the beginning of a supportive relationship, answer any question each of you may have and create a plan that allows you to feel assured that you will be in good hands when the time comes for baby’s birth day and the days following.

(Postpartum support can begin at any time during pregnancy or within the first 4 months of postpartum)
