Briar Hill Midwives

Briar Hill Midwives Calgary's longest established midwifery practice. We provide the resources to assist families in making these decisions.

We are a group of Registered Midwives who are arranged into teams, providing care to women in Calgary and surrounding areas throughout the childbearing years. We share a common holistic midwifery philosophy and work closely together to ensure personal continuous care to women, their newborns and their families. Our experiences are diverse, from nursing backgrounds to midwifery experiences in other countries such as Britain, Australia, and the US. Briar Hill Midwives is the longest established practice of midwives providing personalized continuous care to families in Calgary, and we are very proud of the care which we have been privileged to provide to hundreds of women. We strongly believe that parents have the right and responsibility to make informed, intelligent, and sensitive decisions about the manner in which they choose to give birth. We are happy to provide references from past or present clients.

For years our new graduates from our home grown program at MRU, leave to other provinces for work as they can’t get permanent work here at home. Alberta families deserve better, Midwives deserve better.

If you believe that growth and sustainability of midwifery care in Alberta is important, we would love your support. The Alberta Association of Midwives has several advocacy campaigns currently underway, and we encourage you to take part in the following actions: �
1 Please go to www.alberta-midwives.ca and follow the prompts on the homepage to “Write Your MLA”. It takes 5 minutes to enter your postal code and will send a letter to your local representative to advocate for midwifery care in Alberta.
2 Visit any midwifery practice in your area to fill out and send a physical postcard to your MLA. The postcard message is simple: “My Family. My Birth. My Midwife.” We want every MLA in Alberta to be hearing how crucial midwifery care is as negotiations continue to support growth and sustainability in Alberta - specifically, the need for increased privileges and adequate hospital-based supports.
