South Calgary Primary Care Network Our Primary Care Network helps physicians collaborate with other providers to enhance care.

The South Calgary Primary Care Network (SCPCN) is a collaborative healthcare organization dedicated to enhancing the health and wellness of our community. Serving the South Calgary area, SCPCN works in partnership with family physicians and healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. Our multidisciplinary team offers a wide range of services, including chronic disease management, mental health support, nutrition services, and more. At SCPCN, we are committed to continuous improvement and innovation, striving to meet the evolving needs of our patients through professional development and evidence-based practices. For more information, visit www.scpcn.ca

Our programming is developed and delivered in partnership with family doctors and our wellness partners in the community. Research shows that people who are connected to family doctors and visit them regularly have better health outcomes. In addition, they receive better chronic disease care, make fewer visits to the emergency room and are hospitalized less often.

February is , a time to recognize the vital role psychologists play in supporting the mental health and well-being of our communities.

At SCPCN, our psychologists are an integral part of our interdisciplinary team, walking alongside patients through life’s challenges and milestones.

We asked Sirine Morra, Registered Psychologist and Mental Health Therapist with our Time2Talk program, to tell us a bit about what motivates her. Here’s what she shared:
“What drives me in this work is supporting people through the beautifully complicated journey of being human. Life comes with detours and unexpected challenges, and having someone walk alongside you can make all the difference. It’s an honour to witness and celebrate people’s wins — big or small — and to offer a space where they feel truly seen and understood.”

Thank you to our psychologists for the compassion, skill, and care you bring to patients every day. 💙

Eating Disorders Awareness Week (Feb. 1–7) is a time to deepen understanding, reduce stigma, and remind us that help and resources available. Melissa Fonseka, Registered Psychologist with SCPCN, reflects on the importance of compassionate, team-based care:

“As a mental health therapist working in team-based care, I support individuals in exploring their relationship with food, body image, and self-worth. This often involves unpacking internalized beliefs, building emotion regulation skills, and exploring identity, shame, and self-compassion. Collaborating with dietitians and other health professionals strengthens a patient’s circle of care, helping build readiness for change and alignment in treatment goals.”

Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions—and recovery is possible with the right support. If you or someone you care about is struggling, talk to your primary care provider about available supports.

Eating Disorders Awareness Week is Feb. 1–7 💜 Eating disorders are complex mental illnesses — and they’re about much more than food. They’re shaped by genetics, brain chemistry, environment, and life experiences, and they can affect anyone, at any age or income level.

As SCPCN Registered Dietitian Nadia Rybalka shares, nutrition care in eating disorder recovery is about building trust, fostering safety, and restoring connection. "Primary Care is often where the earliest signs of disordered eating can appear, and dietitians play a vital role in offering compassionate, timely support so people feel seen and supported before symptoms escalate."

Working alongside physicians, mental health providers, and a patient’s broader care team, dietitians help ensure no one has to navigate recovery alone. Early, accessible, and collaborative care can make a meaningful difference — and Eating Disorders Awareness Week is a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

We were honoured to welcome Minister Adriana LaGrange to the SCPCN Wellness Centre this week!

The visit gave us a chance to share how our teams work together every day to support patients, physicians, and the broader health system — from coordinated, team-based care to services that help improve access and continuity for people in our community.

Thank you to everyone who helped showcase the important work happening at SCPCN, and to the Minister for taking the time to see primary care in action.
