Calgary WOW Centre

Calgary WOW Centre Helping you FEEL your best with Manual Osteopathy, Naturopathic Medicine and more! This therapy is a unique holistic (whole body) approach to health care.

Osteopathy is a form of drug-free non-invasive manual medicine that focuses on total body health by treating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework. This includes the joints, muscles and spine, as well as the internal organs, and fluids of the body. The aim is to positively affect the body's nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. Osteopaths do not simply concentrate on treating the problem area, but use manual techniques to balance all the systems of the body, to provide overall good health and wellbeing. The philosophy of Osteopathy is what sets it apart from other medical disciplines. The key principles are based on all parts of the body functioning together in an integrated manner. If one part of the body is restricted, then the rest of the body must adapt and compensate for this, eventually leading to inflammation, pain, stiffness and other health conditions. When the body is free of restrictions in movement, Osteopathic treatment assists the body with pain minimization, reduced stress and greater mobility providing the body with the opportunity to heal itself. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners study for years to develop very sensitive palpation skills. Many gentle tests and techniques are used to find and treat the root causes of dysfunction and not just chase the symptoms. Our practitioners work with a variety of age groups from newborn to the elderly. Osteopathic Manual Therapy can help with
•Neck and back pain, headaches & migraines
•Sciatica, joint pain, traumatic injury and overuse injuries
•Pediatric health such as chronic ear infections
•Pregnancy and postpartum depression
•A multitude of other, less obvious disorders

Osteopathy: What is it Exactly?

Osteopathic manual therapy, sometimes called osteopathy, is a naturopathic treatment modality that recognizes the interconnectivity of the nervous, lymphatic, and musculoskeletal systems within the body.

This drug-free, non-invasive therapy utilizes physical manipulation of the body to trigger its natural regenerative process. For example, it can improve circulation, lymphatic drainage, and joint mobility.

Many patients will explore osteopathic manual therapy as an alternative pain management treatment, as it has been shown to be extremely effective for arthritis pain, sciatica, and overuse injuries.

However, the holistic benefits of treatment can also address conditions you might not expect, such as depression, migraines, and chronic health conditions. It’s even safe for managing pain and discomfort during pregnancy and as part of fertility treatment. That’s because this treatment modality focuses on the underlying cause of imbalances within the body, leading to a widespread improvement in overall wellness.

Osteopathic manual therapy is gentle and safe for almost any patient—it’s even used in pediatric medicine and neonatal care.

Explore the benefits of osteopathic manual therapy for yourself at Calgary WOW Centre. Our talented, multi-disciplinary team of providers makes us your one-stop-shop for total wellness in Calgary. Visit our website or call us today to schedule a consultation.

Vegan Portobello Pizza Recipe - Food is Medicine

This is a healthier take on pizza ... made with portobello mushrooms as the “crust.”

Experiment with your favorite toppings!

Vegan Portobello Pizza Recipe
(serves 4)

● 4 large portobello mushrooms
● Olive oil
● 1 tsp Italian seasoning
● 1 cup of your favorite pizza sauce
● 3/4 cup veggies or other favorites pizza toppings (diced onions, peppers, olives, etc)

For the “cheese” topping:
● ½ cup raw cashews
● 2 Tbsp nutritional yeast
● ½ tsp sea salt

Preheat your oven to 400ºF/200ºC. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Clean the mushrooms and remove the stems, and brush both sides with a small amount of olive oil, placing them on the baking sheet. Sprinkle the Italian seasoning over the top, and bake for 5-8 minutes.

While they are precooking, prepare the cheese topping: place the nuts, nutritional yeast, and salt in a food processor and pulse until it turns into a parmesan-like consistency.

Remove the mushrooms from the oven and top with pizza sauce, toppings, and a sprinkle of vegan cheese. Place back in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, until the toppings are tender.

Enjoy!
