I highly recommend Kristen’s trainings. This one is a mix of online and in person (Bragg Creek) with the first weekend being open to anyone wishing to deepen their restorative yoga practice, not just those in the training. Click the link for more information.

I’m excited to share that registration is now open for my new 50-Hour Restorative Yoga Teacher Training — a blend of immersive in-person weekends and flexible online learning designed to help you share the deeply healing practice of rest.

Reposting as this is my biggest yoga pet peeve. Not everyone can ‘just’ step forward. Teachers, please give a couple simple cues like ‘drop one knee and bring the opposite foot forward’ or suggest blocks as below.
~
I’ve been practising more Vinyasa Flow yoga Classes this month and find the transition from Down Dog to Lunge difficult with my foot making it maybe halfway. This can be because of tight shoulders or hips or the fact that your legs are way longer than your arms. Grabbing the foot and assisting it forward is an option but I find it a bit clunky and slow if I’m keeping up with a faster paced class. Dropping to the opposite knee and then bringing the foot forward is an option as well.
I really like Dianne Bondy’s demo of using blocks to transition. I’ve been keeping my blocks just in front of my hands on my mat to access easily for the step through. Blocks can be at any height but do keep in mind they may be a bit more unstable at the highest level.
Of course there is always the option to do what works best for you even if that means slowing down the Vinyasa (Sun Salutation) down. This is always acceptable whether you are doing an online class or when you are in a studio. It is your practice, the cues are just guidelines.

As the sun spirals its longest dance, cleanse us.
As nature shows bounty and fertility, bless us.
Let all things live with loving intent
And to fulfill their truest destiny.

Spent this past weekend with the author of this beautiful book, Dr. Raj Balkaran. His storytelling was captivating and each session flew by. I am now delving into this book of Indian Mythology and inspired postures that help us to remember the wisdom they contain. Beautifully written and illustrated this is a must read* for all students of yoga 🕉️
