HIGH TEA | Residents from Westview Town Suites and Westview Residence West, along with their families, enjoyed an afternoon high tea last week. Guests chose from a variety of teas, as well as both savory and sweet treats. The mini scones were a favourite, along with the tuna and cheese mini sandwiches and the turkey and cranberry sandwiches. Thanks to our volunteer Gina for her help, and to accordionist Robert Scherle, who created a warm and joyful atmosphere with his music!

SKITS | Don and Shirley Caston and a few other residents recently performed four short comedy skits for their friends at Shouldice Commons. Don says they enjoy making people laugh, as “laughter is the best medicine!” While the skits were written by another author, Shirley is also a writer, and has written of her experiences during the war in England as well as short stories of her children’s escapades. Beaverdam community manager Tim Bowen graciously provided live piano music to accompany the performances.

ASCHA | Silvera had the privilege this week of participating in a rewarding convention hosted by the Alberta Seniors & Community Housing Association in Edmonton. Organizers saved the best for last as three residents shared stories about what home means to them. Among other things, the residents provided frank feedback on the design of seniors' housing. Other highlights included a fireside chat with Premier Danielle Smith; a sector update from Jason Nixon, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services; and a behind-the-scenes perspective from David Williams, Assistant Deputy Minister of the Housing Division. In addition, Silvera's Nadine Maillot led a session on how to enhance wellness through purposeful leisure programming. We look forward to putting what we've learned into practice.

FELINE FRIENDS | It was, you might say, a purrrr-fect afternoon when several Shawnessy Commons residents recently turned simple socks into adorable stuffed kittens!

With a bit of stitching, a touch of glue, and a lot of heart, residents created their own fuzzy friends that don't require food, water, or a litter box!

Residents spent a great day crafting together, having good conversations about their own past pets and creating names for their furry felines.

WALKER WASH | Employees from Co-operators stopped by Aspen Commons for a Care Day earlier this month to wash walkers and vacuum power chairs. They also created new walker name tags with residents!

Uttara Shetye, who previously worked for Silvera, is now with Co-operators and suggested Silvera as a great place to volunteer for a team-building event that included individuals from across Canada. Residents expressed how much they appreciated the work of the volunteers, since cleaning their walkers and power chairs is not something many residents can do on their own any longer.

Thank you Uttara and the Co-operators team!
