MENTAL HEALTH | It’s Bell Let’s Talk Day. Older adults are at risk of developing mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety disorders, which also can impact physical health, independence, and quality of life.

According to the World Health Organization, loneliness and social isolation are key risk factors for mental health conditions in later life. Today, and every day, take a moment for mental health to foster resilience, social connection, and the ability to enjoy life.

HORSE DERBY | Westview Town Suites' residents Caryl Horn and Jim Fitzpatrick recently collaborated to create a horse racing game for their fellow residents! Using Silvera's Artist-on-the-Go bus, they handcrafted horse stands and tiny saddles and built the track. Each horse has been strategically named based on suggestions from other residents.

Event Planner Carolina Gomez and Haley Emary, Westview’s Life, Learning and Leisure lead, worked with Caryl and Jim to plan a horse racing kick-off party, including stadium-style food and derby backdrops. Thank you to the entire Westview team and the volunteers for sharing their passion to create a new program for residents to enjoy every Wednesday evening!

VISION | To ring in 2026, Bow Valley Commons residents created a vision board for the year ahead. Through meaningful conversations with one another, residents articulated their goals and hopes, from health and happiness to learning new hobbies. The vision board will be displayed in the main common area so residents are reminded of their visions for the year. The Bow Valley dining team prepared festive snacks and sparkling drinks to help residents celebrate! Cheers to a great 2026!

GENEROSITY | Earlier this month, a generous corporate volunteer organized a group of her friends to purchase gifts for every resident at Shouldice Commons. On Dec. 22, the group delivered 56 boxes to delighted Shouldice seniors, who received puzzles, games, socks, lotions, adult coloring books, throws, teas, gift cards and toiletries. Some residents even received brand new winter coats from Roots and signed personal cards from the gift givers. We are truly grateful for the kindness shown to Silvera residents this holiday season!

JOLLY | Santa and the Grinch -- together? Residents at several of Silvera's supportive living communities were treated to a visit from this unlikely duo before Christmas!

Santa led residents in sing-alongs of holiday favourites, spreading cheer and goodwill to each and every Who in Silveraville! Eventually, even the grouchy Grinch joined in and had fun. Some say his heart grew two sizes!
