Remember, uncomfortable is ok but painful is not! If it hurts, re-roll your towel so it's not so thick.
Now, here's the reason I'm not a big fan of doing this with a foam roller.
Reason #1- It can be too intense. Often this causes the body to hold on even harder trying to guard against the pain.
Reason #2- It can strain your neck since you're left holding your head up against gravity a long time.
Reason #3- A roller is too big. Often when 1 segment of the spine is stiff, the area above and below end up moving more to make up for it. Therefore laying over something as large as a roller, allows the mobile segments to accomplish the movement without ever targeting the stiff/ stuck parts (Imagine your spine making an upside down "V" shape as opposed to a "C" type curve) So what moves is encouraged to move even more and what's stuck is allowed to get more stuck. No good!
Try it out with the towel and send this video to a friend who could use it!
