Today we want to share an important reminder to homeowners and, specifically, to our Calgary clients.

Calgary police are currently investigating two overnight shootings that took place in northeast Calgary communities. While we don't want to cause alarm, incidents like these are a good reminder for all of us to stay aware of our surroundings, report anything suspicious to local authorities, and look out for our neighbours.

If you are someone who travels frequently or spends extended time away from home, now is also a good time to think about what steps you have in place to keep your property safe and secure while you're gone. A home that looks lived in is a home that's less vulnerable. Having a trusted contact who can check in regularly, respond if something comes up, and be your eyes and ears on the ground can make a real difference.

We hope the homeowners are safe, that police are able to identify those responsible, and that this family can feel secure in their home again.

The news recently shared a report on a series of home break-ins across Calgary that police believe may involve travelling crime groups. Police identified incidents at residences on Hamptons Grove NW, Edenwold Drive NW, and California Boulevard NE.

In every case, the homes were unoccupied and accessed through rear patio or sliding doors. This is not shared to cause concern. It is shared because awareness matters.

When a home is empty, it can quickly stand out. Regular activity, visible care, and knowing someone is checking on things can make a meaningful difference.

In places like Calgary and Red Deer County, skunks remain active throughout the winter. They tend to move around less often, but they come out at quieter, more strategic times and continue to look for sheltered areas to den.

Decks, patios, sheds, and spaces around foundations are common spots. When skunks settle in, that can mean strong odours, digging, and damage, even when there is snow on the ground.
