Sometimes, the biggest step in your mental health journey isn’t learning something new: it’s unlearning the patterns that no longer serve you.

We often think of progress as a straight line or a constant climb. But unlearning is messy. It’s about letting go of the "shoulds," the old coping mechanisms, and the pressure to have it all figured out right now.

Think of it like clearing out a garden to make room for something better. It’s non-linear, it takes time, and it’s a huge part of the process.

What’s one old habit or "rule" you’re trying to unlearn lately?

Progress doesn’t always look like a giant leap.

Sometimes, it’s the quiet decision to be kind to yourself when things get tough. It’s choosing to rest instead of pushing through, or simply acknowledging how far you’ve come without needing a megaphone.

At Northwest Psychology, we believe the quiet moments of self-compassion are often where the most meaningful growth happens. You don't have to be loud to move forward.

How are you being kind to yourself today? 🌿

💥🌀Is the constant noise getting to you?🌀💥

Reconnecting with nature might be just the break your brain needs 🌿🌱🧠

🏔️From June 19 to September 7, 2026, Canada is offering free day entry to national parks, historic sites, and marine conservation areas, plus 25% off camping fees. ⛺

🚆There are also discounts on travel with VIA Rail, and many museums and galleries are offering free or reduced admission for kids, teens, and young adults.🚅

It’s a simple opportunity to step away from the noise for a bit.

From a mental health perspective, time in nature can really help with lowering stress, improving your mood, and giving your mind a chance to slow down and reset.

If things have been feeling full lately, this might be your sign to get outside, breathe a little deeper, and let yourself unwind. 😌

Small steps are still steps.

In a world that often measures success by giant leaps, it’s easy to feel like our smaller efforts don’t count. But the truth is, showing up for yourself: even in the smallest way: is a massive victory.

Progress doesn’t always look like a life-changing breakthrough. Sometimes, it looks like:
- Taking a single deep breath when things feel heavy.
- Setting one small boundary.
- Choosing rest over productivity.
- Simply showing up for your day.

Self-compassion means giving yourself the grace to move at your own pace. There is no "right" speed for healing or growth. Every small step you take is building a path toward the person you’re becoming.

How are you showing up for yourself today? Let us know in the comments.

Healing isn’t a straight line: and that’s completely okay.

We often imagine progress as a perfect arrow pointing up, but the reality is usually a bit more of a scribble. 📈 Some days feel like a giant leap forward, while others feel like a quiet step back. Both are a natural, necessary part of the journey.

At Northwest Psychology, we’re here to remind you that setbacks aren’t failures; they’re just part of the process. You don’t have to carry the pressure of "perfect" recovery to be strong. Our team provides a safe, no-judgment space to help you navigate those twists and turns, offering a collaborative approach so you never have to walk the path alone.

Take a moment today to celebrate how far you’ve come, even if it feels like a small win. You’re doing the work, and that’s what matters most.

April is Autism Awareness Month.

At Northwest Psychology, we believe awareness should lead to understanding, respect, and meaningful support.

This month, we’re holding space for autistic people of all ages and the families who love them.

A few reminders:
- Autism is not one story
- Communication can look different for everyone
- Support should be shaped around the person, not a checklist
- Acceptance matters every day, not just in April

If you’re a parent, teen, or adult looking for a safe, neuro-affirming space, we’re here to help.
