Depression near ovulation isn’t talked about enough, but it’s real for many people.
Hormone changes across the menstrual cycle can affect mood, energy, and emotional regulation. For some, the rise and drop in estrogen around ovulation may interact with serotonin and dopamine, which can contribute to low mood or emotional heaviness.
That said, hormones are rarely the whole story. Stress, sleep, pain, relationships, and life demands often intensify what you’re feeling.
If mood changes around ovulation or before your period feel intense or start to affect daily life, tracking patterns over a few cycles can be helpful. From there, therapy and medical support can offer clarity, coping strategies, and relief.
You don’t have to push through this alone. Support is available, and your experience is valid.
