Starting a class with a passive pose, a block under the shoulder blade to relieve stress build up in upper back, shoulders, chest and neck. Foot Arches: you need to develop flexibility, agility, and strength in the hip and leg muscles to maintain foot-arches and to keep them in shape. Arches are made by strong support from the top, not by support from the bottom-up. Think about the suspension bridges!!

Sitting on chairs shortens the hamstrings, which cause low back, shoulder, hips and knee issues. Especially now, during covid era, people are sitting more and longer than ever while trying to justify their ‘working from home’ scenario. And when people are not working, guess what, they are on couches watching tv...so sitting on chair continues!!

Following article has few suggestions for adding movement (modified Yoga poses) while on the office chair. In addition to these, try to add following to your daily toutine:
1. Squatting-Malasana
2. Superbrain Yoga
3. Sitting on a floor in Sukhasana, especially while eating, taking tea or watching tv.

Hamstrings are posterior thigh muscles which cross and act upon two major joints: hip and knee.

“The More You Sit, the More You “Shorten” Your Hamstrings

In our sedentary office culture, we spend an inordinate amount of time sitting with both the knee and hip bent; this position directly impacts the length of the hamstrings.

Athletic activities, such as running and biking, can further shorten the hamstrings; tightness can also affect the pelvis because the tendons attach to the sit bones..”

“Sitting catalyzes congestion in the muscles and other connective tissue, and in the vascular and lymph systems.”

When things don’t flow, it manifests as tightness in the hips, legs, lower back, shoulders, neck, “everywhere!”
