FINISHED! After 2 years, thousands of lollipops, air high-fives, endless smiles, and a few tears, we are proud to announce that 4,243 blood samples were collected from the 1,035 children enrolled in the Alberta Childhood COVID-19 Cohort study.

We are filled with gratitude for the children who contributed to science, their parents for agreeing to participate, our funders (Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation and YourAlberta (Government of Alberta) and the staff who worked on the AB3C serology project. Stay tuned for results from all this work!

Publication alert! 🦠Our ACHIEVE Team has been a part of a recent study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases, where researchers determined the incidence of significant health events among pregnant women after COVID-19 vaccination.

Spoiler: The COVID-19 mRNA vaccines were proven to be safe for pregnant women. Vaccinated pregnant women were found to have the least amount of adverse health events following dose 2 of the mRNA-1273 vaccine. Since COVD-19 can cause significant complications in pregnancy, it is important that women are provided reassuring evidence that COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are safe in pregnancy. 🤰

THANK YOU to the ~90,000 Albertans who enrolled in our study!

COVID-19 mRNA vaccines have a good safety profile in pregnancy. These data can be used to appropriately inform pregnant people regarding reactogenicity of COVID-19 vaccines during pregnancy, and should be considered alongside effectiveness and immunogenicity data to make appropriate recommendations....

Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine is now approved for children ages 6 months and older. We are grateful that children in Canada will soon be able to receive their first doses, and especially thankful for all our ACHIEVE mini research superheroes at the Alberta Children's Hospital who contributed to this data and science 📢🙏

Happy đź’Ż Anniversary, ACH!

How it started ➡️ How it’s going

Today marks 100 years of Hope + Healing in our community!

On May 19, 1922, the Junior Red Cross Children’s Hospital opened in Calgary. Since then, there have been several different buildings and expansions, lots of new specialists, programs and equipment. Despite the many changes and advancements over the last 100 years, one thing has remained constant: love from our community.

As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we hope you feel proud, knowing your support has helped the Alberta Children’s Hospital become what it is today – THANK YOU. ❤️

We are so excited to see what the Next 100 years brings. Interested in more history about the hospital? Visit http://ow.ly/7wJA50Jc8bk.

The Canadian National Vaccine Safety Network is looking for parents of children 5 years of age or older who have NOT had the COVID-19 vaccine to complete our short online survey.

To monitor the vaccine’s safety, we need a picture of the whole population’s health. This helps us better measure any change in illness that may happen after getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

To find out more visit:

The purpose of the study is to find out how often health events occur after a COVID-19 vaccine. To do this, we also need to monitor health events in people who did NOT get a COVID-19 vaccine. We need to measure the background illness of the population because it helps us better measure any increase....
