When we think about recovering from a traumatic accident, we often focus on the physical injuries. But the emotional impact — anxiety, depression, PTSD, strained relationships — can be just as significant and is often overlooked.

I'm excited to share a new guest blog on my website from the team at Valent Legal, exploring the mental health effects of traumatic accidents. It covers:

• Immediate and long-term psychological responses
• Warning signs to watch for in yourself or a loved one
• Risk factors that can affect how someone processes trauma
• Coping strategies and where to find support in Canada

Healing is about more than the body. If you or someone you know has experienced a traumatic accident, I hope this resource offers some clarity and comfort.

As a therapist, there is nothing I want more than to help people, to be there for them in their most difficult moments and help them find hope and healing. I know that for most of us, this is why we do the work we do, and there is nothing more fulfilling than knowing we’ve made a positive impact on a client’s life.

The news about Rebecca White reminds me of a side to this work that I don’t think is talked about enough. There is an inherent risk to this type of job, and when you work alone, as a woman, this risk is magnified. We’re not taught how to protect ourselves, and more importantly, there aren’t systems in place to protect us. I don’t know what the solution to this problem is, but talking about it is a first step, and prioritizing clinician safety is a must.

I’m devastated for Rebecca White, her family, colleagues, and clients. This terrible news sits heavily on my heart.

To my fellow therapists: if you’re feeling the same way, shoot me a message; maybe together we can find a way to make this work a little safer for all of us.

To my clients: you trust me with your most vulnerable selves, and I am honoured to sit with you in the little room. Thank you for letting me walk beside you on your journeys. When things get hard and doubt creeps in, you remind me why I do this work. You’re worth it.

In my therapy practice, I often see people blaming themselves for low confidence or chronic self-doubt, without realizing how deeply attachment plays a role.

Our attachment patterns don’t just shape how we relate to others; they quietly influence how we see ourselves, how confident we feel, and how worthy we believe we are of care and connection.

In my latest article, I explain how secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized attachment styles impact self-esteem, and how these patterns can shift with awareness and the right support.

Your attachment style may explain some of your struggles, but it doesn’t define you.

Dear Alberta teachers,

I have heard your struggles. In my therapy room, in my living room, in the emails I have received as a parent, always polite and professional, but offering small glimpses of the truth for those of us who can read between the lines.

I have seen the conditions you must work in, the overcrowded classrooms, the complex needs you must manage in a class of 30+ kids with little to no help. I have seen the negative impact this has on your students; most parents with a child in public education have seen what it’s really like.

The Alberta government wants us to believe that you don’t care about our children. I know this is a lie. I know that you wouldn’t do this job if you didn’t care, and I know that the children you teach are your priority.

As a therapist, I have the honour of working with wonderful teachers, hearing your stories, your hopes and struggles, and I know you care.

As the sister of a teacher, I have been in awe of the level of devotion and love that my sister has for her students, despite the challenges and stressors of the job, and I know in my heart that I could never do what she does, and most of us wouldn’t. I know she cares.

As a parent, I have volunteered in many classrooms, and I have witnessed firsthand a lot of the issues that Alberta teachers have been talking about for years. I have seen the crowded classrooms, the impact that insufficient assistance in handling classroom complexities has on all the children, and I have seen every teacher handle these challenges with grace and a smile on their face. For the children, because they care.

I know the messaging coming from the Alberta government is hurtful; it’s an insult to all of you, who devote so much of your lives and hearts to our children. I want you to know that I don’t believe them, I stand behind you, and I’m ready to support you in any way I can.

✨New Blog Post✨

If you’re an adult with ADHD, you’re probably very familiar with the way it impacts you in terms of your attention, motivation, and focus. But one of the most challenging, and often overlooked, aspects of ADHD is emotional dysregulation.

This may look like:

🔸Feeling emotions more intensely than others
🔸Reacting quickly and regretting it later
🔸Heightened anxiety and worry
🔸Struggling to calm down after stress or upset
🔸Feeling guilt and shame for being “too sensitive” or “too much”

This isn’t about not trying hard enough or a flaw in your personality; it’s a difference in the way your brain is wired. Working with a therapist who understands ADHD can help you:

🔹Learn to pause before reacting
🔹Identify and understand your emotional triggers
🔹Build self-soothing and mindfulness tools
🔹Heal from years of shame or misunderstanding

You deserve support, and it’s possible to feel more grounded, confident, and in control.

Do you ever feel like your emotions are “too much”? Or wonder why certain relationship patterns keep repeating?

It might be your attachment history speaking, and there is a way through.

✨ In my latest blog post, I talk about Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), a powerful, research-based approach that helps you understand your emotions, heal old attachment wounds, and feel more connected to yourself and others.

EFIT isn’t about “fixing” you, it’s about helping you feel safe and secure enough to be fully yourself.

💛 Some wounds don’t speak in words, but in anxiety, disconnection, or self-doubt. EFIT helps you listen so that healing can begin.”
