On Saturday the 8th I held an Open House to introduce the way Creative Trauma Focused Therapy (CTFT) could address the effects of trauma through expressive arts while integrating traditional intervention strategies, e.g., Narrative, Systemic, Solution-focused, CBT and Somatic therapy.

The Open House was a success as attendees had an opportunity to try some of the strategies. One attendee commented that working on a broken bowl provided her an opportunity to focus on her life in a different way, focusing on all the different aspects of her life and seeing all the different aspects of herself. She commented how this could be a very helpful tool for clients in addressing trauma and creating resiliency.

I am holding a second Open House for psychologists and other practicing therapists to learn how to refer a client for CTFT or to augment their practice.

Nov. 17th, 6-8 pm.

I developed Creative Trauma Focused Therapy (CTFT) to address the effects of trauma through expressive arts while integrating traditional intervention strategies, e.g., Narrative, Systemic, Solution-focused, CBT and Somatic therapy. Hypnosis and play were also added as a means of fostering and developing new meanings to the traumatic life experiences. Or in other words Resiliency.

I am holding an Open House for psychologists and other practicing therapists to learn how to refer a client for CTFT or to augment their practice.

Please drop in on Saturday, Nov. 8th, 12-3 or Nov. 17th, 6-8 pm.

Sundancer Psychological Services is offering a Grief and Loss Group:
The experience of significant loss and grief of someone in our life, whether it be personal or professional, can be difficult for therapists and caregivers to navigate; we often find ourselves holding onto this grief resulting in secondary trauma and/or compassion fatigue. It affects our ability to be the best we can with other clients and other relationships; frequently shaking our worldview.
Joanne will be offering monthly grief groups for psychologists and other caregiving professionals. Groups will begin in person starting November 6th, 5:30 – 7:30 pm; 1212 1st SE, Calgary. This is an open group for psychologists, other therapists and professional caregivers to share and support each other in our own grieving process. Joanne uses the “Seasons of Grief” (J. Miller) as her in all healing model in the grief groups, believing that as we move through the various seasons, we find understanding of our loss and develop resiliency.
Intakes are ongoing, with a fee of $75 per meeting with receipts available for health plans. Register on on-line at https://www.sundancerpsych.com/ or contact Joanne for more information or at 587-437- 9019.

“Piecing” Sharing Circles for Therapists and Professional Caregivers

Purpose of the Sharing Circles
The “Piecing” Sharing Circles are designed specifically for therapists, teachers, nurses, and other professional caregivers. These circles provide a dedicated space to openly share personal experiences, feelings, struggles, successes, and challenges encountered in daily life and work. In helping professions, giving is constant, yet there are few opportunities for caregivers themselves to express and reflect.
Inspiration and Structure
The circles are inspired by Indigenous Talking Circles, drawing upon traditions of communal sharing, respect, and attentive listening. Additionally, the spirit of quilt making—where each unique piece contributes to a harmonious whole—serves as a guiding metaphor for the creative and supportive community built within the circles.
