There is no current evidence suggesting that COVID vaccines impact fertility in any way, as studies done on both male and female fertility outcomes after vaccine have shown no negative consequences.

Both the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and the National Advisory Committee on Immunization have stated that the COVID-19 vaccines are safe for individuals who are pregnant and those who are breastfeeding.

Vaccine safety is a critical issue in pregnancy, and data from thousands of pregnant individuals who have received vaccine has not shown any increased risk.

On the other hand, becoming infected with COVID-19 carries serious risks that can have severe consequences, especially for pregnant individuals.

In this current wave of COVID-19, we saw a rise in the number of pregnant Albertans in ICU. In fact, since mid-July, there have been more pregnant people admitted to ICU in these past three months than in the entire first year of the pandemic.

Vaccines are recommended for anyone who is pregnant or nursing, as the risk of severe outcomes of COVID infection in pregnant women has increased with variants of concern.

We know parents want the best for their babies, and we’d like to answer any questions that Albertans have – whether they are planning a pregnancy, currently expecting a baby, or have recently had a baby.

On October 27, 2021, Dr. Eliana Castillo, Clinical Associate Professor, Cu***ng School of Medicine, University of Calgary and Dr Deena Hinshaw held a telephone town hall to answer questions about vaccines, fertility and maternal health.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw held a conversation about COVID-19 vaccines, pregnancy, and both female and male fertility on October 27.

Hi, my name is Rama Swami.

I am a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist.

I was born in India and completed my Postgraduate studies through the All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. I moved to Calgary in 2012 with my husband and have called it home ever since. We now have a wonderful daughter who keeps us busy. I enjoy painting with my daughter and have discovered a new found love for hiking.

I graduated in 2005 and have worked in a range of healthcare settings, from hospitals, nursing homes to private practice clinics.

I engage in continuing education and sharing my knowledge by being a Clinical Instructor to Physiotherapy students graduating from the University of Alberta.

Throughout my career, I developed an inclination towards Pelvic Health and have actively sought professional development courses to further enhance my skills. I have Level 3 certification in treating Pelvic Floor dysfunction. I have undergone special training in treating Pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy. I am certified in treating Pelvic Organ prolapse.

After having my daughter through a C-section, I realized how important it is to take care of your health and the health of loved ones around you.

This fueled my passion for helping women through different stages of their pregnancy - preparing them for labour and delivery, empowering them to manage postpartum stress, incontinence, pelvic pain, trouble with in*******se, and any other symptom that holds them back from doing what they want to do.

I am excited to start my journey at South Health Maternity and Wellness and am grateful for the ability to be able to help other women.

I am currently available every Friday for appointments! Please call the clinic to schedule a visit. I look forward to supporting you!

~Rama Swami

There is evidence that asymptomatic, pre-symptomatic or
minimally symptomatic individuals can transmit COVID-19.

In order to protect all patients, staff, and physicians during all IN-OFFICE clinic appointments, as of JULY 2nd 2020, we are requesting that ALL patients and their support person(s) should wear a NMM (non-medical mask) during their entire office visit – whether that is one purchased, home-made or simply a bandana. Ideally three cloth layers is best.

We thank you kindly for your cooperation and understanding in protecting yourself, your family, and our clinic staff!
