Well now, this is interesting!! Here’s a study that looks at using antacids containing calcium carbonate & sodium bicarbonate (ie. Gaviscon Dual Action or Tums) to help labour prevent stalls in inductions and cesareans due to non-progressing labour.

“Given the role of calcium in muscle contractility, we speculate that calcium carbonate may play a role in decreasing labor dystocia for pregnant people undergoing induction of labor by increasing the sensitivity of the uterus to oxytocin.”

These are some of the concepts in the book Ease by Dr Jagdeep Johal, a wise. funny and gifted acupuncturist I know. I highly recommend reading it. There is wisdom on every page!!

This tidbit below applies in pregnancy, in birthing, in all stages of parenting… In all of life, really.
