Balanced Body Therapy incorporates several modalities to identify & resolve the root cause of what is holding your body back from being pain free & fully mobile. Vertigo & head injuries, carpel tunnel, range of motion, digestive or sleep issues, alignment of the spine and hips, etc. Some of the basics of each modality provided at Balanced Body Therapy are:
Manual Osteopathy: a gentle, non-invasive, holistic approach to restoring balance and mobility to all aspects of the body. Includes structural alignment of the hips, spine and other joints gently and painlessly, mobilization of the organs, Cranial Osteopathy (corrective craniosacral work) and fascial manipulation. Massage Therapy (Osteopathic Massage): helps improve circulation and reduce overall tension, wonderful for general aches and pains, relaxation. Typically includes aspects of osteopathic work relevant to your specific needs. Movement Therapy/Hanna Somatics: muscles do not hold tension without signals being sent from the brain. Hanna Somatic Movements allow you to sense the tension your muscles are holding onto and teaches you how to release this tension. The movements are painless and often the hidden element that's been missing from your treatments. Equine and Canine Hanna Somatics: mobile work is provided for working with horses and dogs! Lameness, general health, lead issues, and more are addressed with these treatments

Almost half of equestrian riders.
44%.
That’s not a rare occurrence. That’s nearly every second rider in the arena.
Concussions aren’t just part of the sport. They’re brain injuries.
And how you recover matters just as much as how you ride.
Headaches, brain fog, neck tension, light sensitivity, anxiety, balance changes… these aren’t things you just “push through.”
If you ride, coach, parent, or compete — education and proper recovery should be part of your program.
Your brain is your best piece of equipment.
Take care of it like you would your horse.

Concussions are misunderstood.
And the myths can delay real recovery.
No, you don’t have to lose consciousness.
No, it’s not “just a bump on the head.”
And no, complete isolation in a dark room for weeks isn’t the gold standard anymore.
Accurate information changes outcomes.
Swipe through for a few simple myths I hear all the time — and what actually supports the brain after injury.
If you or your athlete has questions about concussion recovery, reach out. Early guidance matters.

One hour of movement touches:
• your brain
• your muscles
• your joints
• your metabolism
• your nervous system
This is why consistency matters.
Not for aesthetics. For longevity.
Move your body. It pays you back in ways you can’t see immediately — but absolutely feel over time.

Here’s the truth we don’t talk about enough:
We start losing muscle as early as our 30s.
After 60, that loss accelerates — faster, quieter, and with real consequences.
Muscle isn’t just about strength or aesthetics.
It’s about balance, bone density, joint health, blood sugar control, brain health, and independence as we age.
Less muscle means:
• higher injury risk
• slower recovery
• more pain
• less resilience
The good news? Muscle loss is not inevitable.
It responds incredibly well to strength training, proper recovery, nervous system regulation, and enough fuel.
This is the definition of use it or lose it.
And maintaining muscle is one of the most powerful investments you can make in your future self.
You don’t have to train harder — you have to train smarter.
Support your body, keep it moving, and give it the care it needs to stay strong for decades to come.

Being somatic isn’t just about movement—it’s about awareness. It’s the radical act of tuning in, of noticing how you move, how you feel, and how your choices shape your experience. It’s about paying attention to the subtle sensations, the whispers of tension or ease, and honoring what your body is telling you.
In a world that constantly pulls us outward—toward productivity, perfection, and proving ourselves—somatic awareness is an invitation to come home to yourself. To listen. To move with intention. To recognize that your body and mind are in conversation, always.
The more we connect with ourselves, the more grounded, resilient, and whole we become. And that? That’s where true healing starts. 💙

A fun trend I couldn't resist ;)

I’m less concerned about where it hurts
and far more interested in why it hurts.
Pain is rarely the problem.
It’s the signal.
The body has usually been compensating, guarding, or adapting for a long time before it finally speaks up.
That tight shoulder?
Often a nervous system stuck in protection.
That low back pain?
Frequently a loss of coordination, breath, or load sharing elsewhere.
When we only chase symptoms, relief is temporary.
When we understand the why — how your nervous system, fascia, joints, and movement patterns are working together — change lasts.
This is whole-body work.
It’s thoughtful.
It’s specific.
And it’s designed for people who are tired of band-aid fixes.
If your body has been trying to get your attention, let’s listen to it properly.

It doesn’t make a big announcement.
It shows up when you realize you’re getting out of the car without thinking about it.
When your shoulders aren’t glued to your ears.
When pain isn’t running the conversation anymore.

Our story begins in the spring of 2013 when Michelle first brought Manual Osteopathy to Cochrane. Being the first to offer this modality in town, she’s kept her rates lower than you’d find in Calgary. After studying Hanna Somatics Movement Therapy, a modality that teaches people how to release their own tension and can re-balance the hips/spine and improve
mobility, Michelle needed a space to teach group classes. This is what opened the doors to the clinic studio she’s occupied for the past 2.5 years.
Michelle’s desire is to continually be working herself out of a job, to always require new patients as other patient’s dysfunctions are resolved.
