I got over 20 reactions on one of my posts last week! Thanks everyone for your support! šŸŽ‰

I realize this is a small win, but living in a world of one-way communication (print and social media), I’ll take it. LOL!!šŸ˜‚

šŸŽ„ Peace of mind is just one button away.

I sat down with resident Eric Ruiz, owner of First Call Response Systems, to talk about simple emergency alert devices that are helping seniors stay independent and independent workers safe — giving families real confidence when they can’t be there.

If you have aging parents, work alone, or want to meet and learn from your neighbour, this is a conversation worth watching.

The button that brings peace of mind.Eric Ruiz from First Call Response Systems shows how simple, reliable emergency alert devices keep Hespeler’s seniors—an...

My daughter and I ended up watching Wyrd Sisters yesterday afternoon at Cambridge Community Players in downtown Cambridge.

What a blast!!! It was colourful and hilarious for both my 12-year-old and I. Definitely the best $45 I’ve spent in a long time!!

Week 1 is done, but if you and your family want to have lots of laughs there are more shows later this week. More info can be found here: https://www.cambridgecommunityplayers.com/wyrdsisters

This afternoon the 4 of us (Tony Rossel, Michelle Thompson, Bas Groot from The BigBas Photography, and even our graphic designer, Kris Locke who in) had a great meeting chatting about Neighbours of Hespeler Village, how the past year went, and what we can do to make 2026 even better! We are excited to serve you for another year.

If you have a second, can you quickly fill out this survey so I can get YOUR input on how we are doing? šŸ™

SOOO Excited that this is hitting mailboxes right now. It is a privilege to (finally, after 5 years) share Marj Meiers’ story with the rest of Hespeler (…and Joe’s too!). I’ve known Marj for years now and appreciate what she does for the community and her optimistic nature. Such a treat! Happy reading!!!

In addition to her story, we have the normal goodies (recipes, a calendar of events, word search, pet corner…) we have an article about a budding figure skater, a sneak peek of Wyrd Sisters - a forthcoming play at Cambridge Community Players and a profile on one of Queen St’s newest businesses, Chic Key Lounge and Boutique !

Happy reading!

šŸ» Brewery + restaurant at the core — a solid Hespeler hangout.
Four Fathers Brewing Co. is one of those go-to places for meeting up: brewery-first with a buzzing restaurant for meals, plus concerts and trivia that can turn a quick visit into a full night out.

Beyond the taps and kitchen, they’ve got public-facing spaces that round out the experience: the IV Loft for weddings/private events, on-site pickleball courts, and a disc golf course.

The interview starts at 0:55, and you can watch the tours of the brewpub/shop at 0:04, pickleball courts at 10:38 and disc golf course at 13:45. Lots to check out!

We’ll be featuring more local bars and restaurants at some point, but Four Fathers is a great place to start.

If you have other businesses you would like to see profiled, please let us know.

Come and visit one of Hespeler’s destinations for fresh beer, great food, and community nights. Four Fathers Brewing Co. is first and foremost a brewery with...

Community over cynicism. Last week's ā€œHespeler is Homeā€ networking event on January 12 at Homewood Suites brought neighbours, business owners, and four elected reps under one roof to connect, share a meal, win a mountain of prizes, and raise money for the Cambridge Food Bank. My opening message was simple: let’s trade mudslinging for respectful conversations—because most of us want the same things for our families and our town. (And no, nobody hates puppies. šŸ˜‰)

šŸŽ¤ Quick hits from the mic:
• Helen Shwery (Ward 1): motion to explore more plows/salters so residential streets/sidewalks are better served in winter.
• Mike Devine (Ward 2): a vivid tour of Hespeler history—from industrial rivers to heritage rivers.
• Jess Dixon (MPP): Hespeler-based office, ā€œwarm hand-offā€ casework, committee work, and a prevention-focused report she authored.
• Matt Strauss (MP): removing barriers for skilled people to serve here and an invite to bring ā€œthis doesn’t make senseā€ issues to his office.

Huge thanks to our generous prize sponsors, Homewood Suites for hosting, and everyone who donated. Nights like this are why Hespeler is Home.

Intro starts at 0:05
Helen Shwery (Ward 1 Councillor) 2:21
Mike Devine (Ward 2 Councillor) 4:37
Jess Dixon (MPP Kitchener-South/Hespeler) 8:10
Matt Strauss (MP Kitchener-South/Hespeler) 15:22

Very excited that the first issue of 2026 is hitting mailboxes right now. (Would it be petty to hold it against Santa for clogging up the mail?) Happy it is here. 🌟 Real food, real neighbours. Today we’re spotlighting FoodZen and owner Destiny Moser, who brings Indigenous philosophy into everyday cooking—hyper-local, ultra-seasonal, and from scratch. Families tell us they’re saving about 10 hours a week while eating fewer processed foods and feeling better. šŸ’¬šŸ²

If you’re a business owner quietly asking yourself, ā€œWhat should I do differently this year?ā€ā€”this may be worth seven minutes of your attention.

On Monday, January 12 (5:30–7:00 pm), I’m hosting the next Hespeler is Home business networking night at Homewood Suites.

This isn’t a random room full of business cards.

You’ll connect with fellow Hespeler business owners—the people your customers already know, trust, and talk about. The kind of relationships that compound over time, not overnight.

And there’s a twist.

This particular evening will also include the politicians who represent Hespeler.
Our MP and two City Councillors are already confirmed, with hopes that our MPP, the Mayor, and a Regional representative will join as well.

That means one room.
Business owners.
Decision-makers.
Real conversations.

If you care about growing your brand and having a voice in the community you serve, this night checks both boxes.

Sometimes the best next move isn’t a new ad or strategy.*
It’s simply being in the right room.

*Although THOSE are things I CAN help with AND am willing to. LOL!!!

🌟 New on Queen Street: a lounge-style boutique where confidence, comfort, and community come first.

Tony sat down with Holly at Chic Key Lounge & Boutique — opened November 1 — to talk about her vision for a welcoming space where you can touch/try products, ask questions, and find pieces that feel right for you (including plus sizes up to 4XL). ļæ¼ ļæ¼

You’ll find bath & body care, cozy pajamas, and lingerie — and for those interested, she hosts private 18+ parties with the sensitive items kept ā€œbehind the keyā€ and available online or through a private event. Hosts even earn cash back (20%, rising to 35% in Jan/Feb). ļæ¼ ļæ¼ ļæ¼

Holly’s also planning a Saturday night social ā€œbook clubā€ in January and offers themed birthday parties where the shop transforms into a celebration space — all about connection, conversation, and fun. ļæ¼ ļæ¼
