Are your hamstrings always feeling tight?

One common reason is weak glute muscles. When the glutes don’t activate properly, the hamstrings step in to do more work than they should — leading to that constant feeling of tension in your hamstrings.

Registered Physiotherapist in Cambridge, Bronwen Thomson, demonstrates 4 glute-focused exercises designed to strengthen your glutes and help relieve tight hamstrings.

HIP THRUST:
👉Lean upper body against a bench with feet flat on the floor.
👉Lift hips up while squeezing glutes
👉Add weight to increase difficultly

RDL:
👉Place feet hip width apart with a slight bend in your knees
👉Hinge hips backwards while keeping back straight and core engaged
👉Hold dumbbells to increase difficulty

Side Plank with Hip Abduction:
👉Lift up into a side plank from your knee and lift your top leg up
👉Keep your hips stacked as you lift your leg
👉Add a band around knees to increase difficulty

Bulgarian Split Squat:
👉Put leg up on step or bench behind you
👉Lower your body by bending your front knee and hinging forward slightly at your hip
👉Hold dumbbells to increase difficulty

All exercises are 3 sets for 8-15 reps
