Falls are the most common cause of emergency department visits in Canada — but they don’t have to be.

This Fall Prevention Month, try this simple 3-step plan to stay steady and confident:

1️⃣ Move - Move your body.

🧘‍♀️ Build your balance, strength, and flexibility with regular physical exercise.
🏊 Enhance your stability and coordination with activities like walking, swimming, or Tai Chi.
💪 Gradually increase the intensity of your activity to build stronger muscles and reduce fall risk.

2️⃣ Improve - Improve your health.

💊 Review your medications with your healthcare provider or pharmacist, and discuss any side effects like dizziness or sleepiness.
👯‍♀️ Keep up your social activities to support mental and physical well-being.
🍎 Eat a nutritious diet and stay hydrated.
👀 Check your eyesight and hearing to catch any changes early.

3️⃣ Remove - Remove hazards.

🧺 Keep your floors clutter-free to reduce tripping risks.
🛁 Install grab bars in the bathroom.

Falls are not a normal part of aging.
They’re common — but they’re preventable ✔️💪

At Focused Care Physiotherapy & Wellness, we help you understand the real reasons falls happen, so you can stay steady, strong, and confident.

❗️Risk factors behind falls 👣:

🩺 Internal Factors:
• Light-headedness when getting up
• Visual Impairments
• Reduced strength or balance

🍂 Don’t Let Raking Wreck Your Back! 🍃

Fall yard work can be a workout — but without the right technique, it’s easy to strain your back, shoulders, or knees.

Here are top tips from your physio and chiro team, to keep you pain-free this season:

🏃‍♀️ Warm up first: A quick 5-10 minutes of stretching or brisk walking prepares your muscles.
🏋️‍♂️ Use your legs, not your back: Bend your knees slightly and shift your weight from foot to foot, instead of twisting.
🔁 Switch sides often: Alternate which hand and foot are forward to balance muscle use.
🚰 Take breaks: Raking is repetitive - pause every 15-20 minutes to stretch and hydrate.
👌 Choose the right rake: Lightweight, ergonomic handles can make a big difference!
