As the seasons change and cold and flu season approaches, one of the best ways to protect yourself isn’t just stocking up on vitamins—it’s staying consistent with your exercise routine!

Regular movement is a powerful tool to support your immune system. Here’s why getting to your mat or bike helps keep you healthy:

• Circulation Boost: Exercise increases blood flow, which allows immune cells to circulate through the body faster. This helps them patrol for and fight off pathogens more efficiently.

Don’t Let Soreness Halt Your Habit 💪

Starting a new fitness routine? You might be experiencing that familiar ache a day or two later, known as DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). It’s a sign your muscles are working and getting stronger, not that you did something wrong!

Here are our tips for managing that post-workout soreness so it doesn’t derail your momentum:

• Ease In: Your first few classes shouldn’t be your hardest. Focus on good form and moving safely. Give your body a chance to adapt before pushing for max intensity.

• Keep Moving: The absolute best way to handle soreness is active recovery. Light movement like a walk, gentle stretching, or taking a restorative class helps increase blood flow to your muscles, flushing out the byproducts that cause the ache.

• Consistency Wins: Don’t let a bit of soreness stop you from coming back! Taking a week off just brings you back to square one. When you come to class, modify or move at your own pace and take breaks as needed. Any movement is far better than skipping entirely.

Soreness vs. Injury: Know the Difference

DOMS feels like a dull, general ache or stiffness across a muscle group, and it usually peaks 24-48 hours after your workout. It feels better with movement.

Injury is different. Stop and seek advice if you feel a sharp, sudden, or shooting pain, pain localized in a joint, or pain that causes swelling or gets worse with movement.

A little bit of DOMS is part of the journey to becoming stronger. Don’t let it be an excuse—let it be proof your body is leveling up!

In a world that constantly demands your energy, finding time for profound rest is non-negotiable. Our dedicated suite of deeply restorative classes, including Yoga Nidra, Sound Baths, and Restorative Yoga, is designed to guide your body into a necessary state of healing.

These practices collectively work to activate your parasympathetic nervous system (your rest and digest mode), shifting you out of the ‘fight or flight’ stress response. 

Here’s how they nourish your mind and body:

• Yoga Nidra: Often called “yogic sleep,” this practice is a powerful, guided meditation designed to induce a state of conscious awareness in deep rest. It’s an incredible tool to reset your mind and release deep mental tension. 

• Sound Baths: Immerse yourself in healing vibrations that gently guide your brain waves into a deep, meditative state, promoting mental clarity and calm.

You can find us in the heart of downtown Campbell River BC.

Our collective of experienced teachers hold powerful space and teach from their hearts. You can find a variety of classes such as hatha, vinyasa flow, prenatal, mom and baby, kundalini, nada, restorative, yin, nidra, meditation.
