Let's talk NEGATIVE IONS!!!!
There is a lot of misconceptions about Ionic Foot Baths.
It seems EVERYONE is obsessed with the Colour changes of the water. As a Practitioner, I am not as interested in the Colour changes or what we are "taking out" but more interested in WHAT WE ARE PUTTING IN THE BODY!!!
Ionic Foot Baths CAN open up detox pathways and I think this is where a lot of the confusion comes in. Negative ions do support the body's natural detoxification pathways—specifically the liver, kidneys, skin, and lymphatic system—by enhancing cellular energy and improving circulation. Proponents suggest that in environments like waterfalls or through tools like ionic foot baths, negative ions act as antioxidants, neutralizing positively charged toxins and heavy metals stored in the body's tissues.
Sounds great, right?!?!?!
All that being said, I am more interested in the effects of Negative Ions in the body. Here is a list of benefits produced by Negative Ions.
1. Negative ions may help restore the body's bio-electrical balance, which can improve mitochondrial function, providing more energy for cells to expel waste.
2. Negative ions can help calm the nervous system, which is crucial for reducing inflammation and allowing the body's natural detox systems to function properly.
3. Negative ions can reduce stress, alleviate depression, and improve mood, partly by increasing serotonin levels.
4. They can aid in regulating sleep patterns and boosting the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats.
5. Exposure to high concentrations of negative ions can improve cognitive performance and reduce fatigue.
6. They promote better immune system function and, in some cases, have been associated with lower blood pressure.
Negative ions are electrically charged molecules (often oxygen) produced in nature through moving water, sunlight, and electrical discharges. Common sources include waterfalls, ocean surf, forests, and thunderstorms, which often produce high concentrations that boost mood and improve air quality.
Natural Sources of Negative Ions
Moving Water: Waterfalls ocean waves, and crashing surf produce high concentrations via the Lenard effect, where splashing water creates a charge disparity.
Atmospheric Activity: Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds create electrical discharges that release massive amounts of negative ions.
Plants and Forests: Forests, particularly pine forests, generate negative ions as part of their growth process.
Natural Elements: Sunlight (UV rays), high-altitude, and coastal areas have higher concentrations.
Other: Soil and natural hot springs.
These are amazing sources but not everyone lives by a waterfall, the Ocean or a Hot Spring. This is where our Ionic Foot Baths come in. This is something you can do every week or a few times a week.
