Linda Kathleen Vongrad (nee King) passed away suddenly in her home on January 5th 2026, with her loving husband, Dennis Davis, by her side.
She leaves to mourn; her mother Gladys King (nee Wallen), her brother Clifford King Sr., her nephew, Scott King and his children Scott King Jr., and Shane King, her niece Wendi (Kevin) Finney and their children McKenzie and Madison, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was beloved by Dennis’s brother Marvin (Trudy) Davis, sister-in-law Joyce Davis, and Dennis’s sister Marlene Coates, as well as many of the Davis family nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be deeply missed by her many, many, friends who were blessed to know her. She was a special adopted Auntie to Justin, Tyler, Josh, Travis, Jared, and Taya, and to their children as well.
Linda was pre-deceased by her father Clifford King Sr., sister-in-law Barb King, brothers-in-law George Davis and Wayne Davis and father-in-law Steve Davis.
Linda was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 20th, 1951. Linda was a natural athlete and developed a love for swimming, gymnastics and track. She entered into the amazing world of horses while still in Ontario and all of her other interests began to pale in comparison. She began riding thoroughbreds, namely Arabians. She became an excellent Dressage rider and entered many shows and competitions with great success.
She moved to Alberta in the late 1970’s and began working at AGT, now known as Telus. Shortly after she moved west, the lure of horses called to her again and she began to ride once more. Linda was forced to retire from Telus, when she was diagnosed with Cancer in 2001. Following her treatment for Cancer, Linda then had to battle the damaging effects left by her surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. She defied all predictions of a short life expectancy and also the prediction of never leaving the hospital or care facility, and went on to enjoy 24 more years of life independently in her home. One thing you didn’t do was to tell Linda, “No” or “You can’t”. It simply set in motion an absolutely determined woman, whos’ only goal was to prove you wrong, which she usually succeeded at.
Even more powerful than the strength of her steel-like will power, was her enormous heart. Linda was legendary for her incredibly generous nature and the extraordinary lengths that she would go to, to lend a helping hand or to lend money, even if that meant she would be left short for her own needs. It didn’t matter if it was a friend, an acquaintance, or simply someone she met on the street, she was always ready to help. Once you met Linda, you became a permanent name on her friend list. She was always reaching out to stay in touch with friends she had met years ago or minutes ago. Linda also highly valued her beloved horses, dogs, and cats even above people at times. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for those four-legged family members. I believe those animals ate better than most people do.
To say the least, the world was a much better and brighter place with Linda Vongrad in it. We who are left, would be well served to try to follow in her footsteps.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Veterans Association Food Bank, a cause which was close to her heart.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date. More information will follow.
