Our Story
Donate Now for Children’s Counselling
Dear Friends
Today is a turning point and we need your help. It’s moving day and we are leaving Camrose Community Centre where, for 16 years we have enjoyed low rent that allowed us to pour our resources into services to children, youth and adults. As of today, our occupancy costs double. Either our revenue has to increase, or our services will have to be cut. Our children’s counselling service cannot be maintained without help. Your help. Would you consider sending a financial gift now for children’s counselling? We need to raise $5000 and right now we have matching funds from anonymous donors that will double donations up to $2500. Your doubled gift will really help erase our shortfall and ensure that we can continue to provide free counselling for school-aged kids who have witnessed family violence or experienced other trauma. We currently provide counselling for 37 children and youth every month. Each one of these young people needs help and your gift will help them.
Children with trauma who aren’t helped face many difficulties. Whether they have seen or heard physical violence, or have learned to “walk on eggshells” trying to avoid emotional or verbal abuse directed at themselves or another member of their family, these kids bear scars. Scars that often don’t show on the surface. These scars actually change the mapping of their brains. Kids with unaddressed trauma are at high risk for dropping out of school, falling into addiction and other self-harming behavior. A very dim future awaits these children if they aren’t helped. We want to avoid that and we know you do too. A relatively small investment now will prevent costly interventions later by our medical, social and legal systems. We’re depending on the generosity of people like you. People who care about children as we do and understand that investing in their mental health now can put them on a path to thrive in school and in life.
