Bow Valley Palliative

Bow Valley Palliative We depend on our community volunteers and fundraising initiatives.

Providing palliative and grief supports within the Bow Valley and Improving the end of life experience for individuals and their families following a life-changing diagnosis. In the spring of 2014, a group was called together under the leadership of Lynn Cooper with the goal of establishing a hospice in the Bow Valley. The group continued to meet regularly and the vision expanded to include the development of a “compassionate community”, working alongside the current health and social services to support those with a life-limiting illness, and their families, throughout their journey. Under the group’s direction, the “Palliative Care Society of the Bow Valley” (PCSBV) was conceived. Development of a compassionate community soon grew to include the idea of constructing a palliative care house in Canmore for Bow Valley communities. The PCSBV is now a vibrant registered charity with a new Board of Directors charting that course for the future.

We’re glad to share the upcoming National Caregiver Day Symposium, hosted by Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence in partnership with Canadian Home Care Association.

This is a great opportunity to hear from caregivers, healthcare leaders, and researchers, and be part of important conversations around strengthening support for caregivers across Canada.

Caring for someone else can be deeply meaningful — and at times, overwhelming.
That is why supporting caregivers is so important— and we’re glad to share this opportunity happening in our community. 💛

𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐒 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 is a program by Caregivers Alberta, facilitated locally by Anna-Lisa, whose connection to caregiving and the Bow Valley community brings a meaningful, personal touch to this experience.

Following a well-received first session in the Bow Valley, this in-person program is being offered again in Canmore: https://rb.gy/u2s3na

Thank you to Caregivers Alberta and Anna-Lisa for continuing to support caregivers in our community.

We thought about doing an April Fools’ joke today…

…but we’re much better at things like supporting individuals and families, providing compassionate care, and walking alongside our community when it matters most. 💛

So no tricks here — just what we do every day.

Understanding what the later stages of dementia may look like can help families and caregivers feel more prepared and supported. While every journey is different, having this awareness can make a meaningful difference in how we care for those around us.

At the heart of it, it’s about meeting people where they are — with compassion, patience, and care. 💙

We had a wonderful time connecting with the community at our Canmore Open House — and now, we’re bringing that same experience to Banff.

This is a chance to come together, ask questions, share ideas, and learn more about how we support individuals and families across the Bow Valley. We’ll also be sharing a glimpse into what’s ahead for compassionate care in our community.

We hope you’ll join us. 💛

Research shows that even simple views of trees, natural light, plants, or gentle outdoor sounds can reduce pain, anxiety, and stress. Nature supports patients, caregivers, and healthcare staff alike.

As we move forward with building our Hospice in the Bow Valley, this idea is central to our vision. Each room will open to the surrounding mountain landscape — creating space for connection, reflection, and small moments of softness when they matter most.
