Life moves at a crazy pace. Meanwhile geopolitical instability, climate change, rising costs of living, and polarization can quietly—or loudly—wreak havoc on our nervous systems.

In the middle of all that, learning how to calm ourselves with equanimity isn’t a luxury—it’s essential. Not to ignore what’s happening in the world, but to meet it with steadier breath, clearer thinking, and more grounded responses.

Calm doesn’t mean complacency.
It means regulation.
It means choice.
It means tending to your inner world so the outer one doesn’t completely run the show.

Pause. Breathe. Re-centre.
Then take your next step from a place of steadiness.

In order for relationships to grow and flourish, you have to make time to fully pay attention to one another; show you have each other’s backs by accepting by and large who each of you is; show affection beyond touching one another—winking, smiling affectionately and being a loving presence; show and tell one another what you appreciate about each other; allow one another the heartfelt freedom to be fully who you are, and allowing more space when one of you needs it. David Richo, author and marriage and family therapist describes these ideas in his book, How to be an Adult in Relationships: The Five Keys to Mindful Loving.
