A couple of weeks ago we were fortunate enough to attend the Island Eye’s conference hosted by Pacific University on the Big Island of Hawai’i 🌺

It was truly the most incredible week, spent learning, and growing as a team. We all had the time of our lives, and thought you’d all love to see a glimpse of our trip!! ⛰️🌴🪂🥥🌺🌊🐚

Meet Dr. Sophie Borho!!!

Dr. Sophie Borho grew up in Formosa, ON. She graduated with honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science in June 2025 and after graduation worked briefly near her hometown, Hanover, ON, before moving to Canmore. She has lived in the Bow Valley before and is thrilled to be back and have the opportunity to work as a doctor in the mountains.

Dr. Sophie loves that optometry allows her to meet people from all walks of life, and patient education and quality care are important to her. She enjoys emergency eye care, seeing kids for eye exams, and managing any eye condition, from dry eye to glaucoma to diabetic retinopathy. She has participated in outreach trips in the past to Jamaica and Nicaragua, and plans to continue helping with many more eye missions through her career.

When she isn’t working, Dr. Sophie loves being outside in the mountains hiking and learning to snowboard, or trying to learn a new instrument. She also loves baking and movies, and will talk about either all day long.

Meet Dr. Laura Appleby!!

Dr. Laura Appleby grew up in Prince George, BC. She graduated with honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science in June 2025 and started practicing here at Viewpoint upon graduating. She is very excited to be a part of the spectacular team we have here!!

Dr. Laura is passionate about all things optometry and loves getting to interact with patients of all ages. One of her goals is to make every child’s exam as much fun as possible. She also loves managing disease, and emergency cases, and getting to educate each individual about their specific eye care needs.

When she isn’t working, Dr. Laura loves spending time in the mountains skiing, backpacking, hiking, and swimming in lakes wherever possible.

👩🏽‍🏫 Make sure your kids are set up for success and have had an updated eye exam before they start back in the classroom!

❕We don’t charge any additional fees for kids eye exams- their Alberta Health Care covers it all🙌🏽

☎️ Give us a call or use our online booking tool linked in our bio to get them booked in, we have openings next week!!

🗓️ If they do need updated glasses- next week is the perfect time to come in to ensure they get their glasses for the first day of school!

Meet Andy!

Andy is originally from a small town in Bavaria, South Germany. He studied optometry in Munich and moved to Canada first in 2017. He has been calling Canmore home since 2022, and today marks his official 2 years with us at Viewpoint!

Andy is our contact lens practitioner, if you wear contact lenses, you have likely met Andy, he does all things contact lenses. He is also a licensed optician, he is a lab technician and assists with the on-site retina clinic days.

When asked what he loves most about working here, Andy said he loves the small town vibes and the amazing team he gets to work with at Viewpoint!

When not working you’ll find him enjoying everything our beautiful home has to offer; he has cycled more than 5000km across Western Canada! He also enjoys running, hiking, canoeing, snowboarding and snowshoeing! You’ll usually find his beautiful pup Bowie by his side on all of his adventures as well!!

Make sure you say hi to Andy next time you’re in!!

👕✨ Clothing Drive for Kids in Malawi! ✨👕

We’re collecting gently used children’s clothing for Canada Vision Care’s upcoming mission trip to Malawi, Africa! 💛

The clothing will go directly to an orphanage and local children in need, alongside a shipping container full of donated eye care equipment. That same container will even be repurposed into a building for the optometry school Canada Vision Care has built — amazing, right?
