Meet David Beeman.

David is a resident at Origin and a lifelong woodworker who has been making these beautiful pieces for nearly 30 years. You will usually find him in his wood working shop here at Origin, shaping each piece by hand, just as he always has. His work is available locally at Stonewaters Home Elements in Canmore.

At Origin, we believe life does not get smaller. It simply changes. Our role is not to replace what makes someone who they are, but to make it easier for them to keep doing the things they love. For David, that means time, space, and support to keep creating, selling, and sharing his craft with the community.

This is what Origin living looks like. More freedom. More support. More of the life you've always lived.

As we settle into the new year, we can’t help but look back on how special our New Year’s celebration was.

From a champagne toast and a delicious roast beef dinner to music, dancing, and so many shared laughs, the evening was filled with gratitude, connection, and a whole lot of joy. One of the highlights was sharing our year-end slideshow, a chance to reflect on all the moments, memories, and milestones that made the past year so meaningful. Watching our residents relive those memories together was something truly special.

Here’s a small glimpse into a night that perfectly captured what Origin is all about: community, care, and celebrating life together. We’re so grateful for the year behind us and excited for all that’s to come. Happy New Year from all of us at Origin.

We love this community. We took a (very) short journey over to our neighbours at the Malcolm Hotel to see the Festival of Trees. It was great to see all the beautifully decorated trees, including our under the sea themed tree, which won first place in its category. We topped the day off with some hot chocolate at the Stirling while enjoying the festive lights and warm community spirit.

Our monthly Men’s Group at Mineshaft Tavern brings the community together in the best way. Coffee, donuts, good conversation, and a chance to connect.

This time around, we welcomed special guest Randy Fabi, former CFL player and Grey Cup champion with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Randy shared incredible stories from his career and brought along some memorable pieces from his time on the field.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this gathering meaningful. Looking forward to the next one!

INDEPENDENT LIVING

Independent living is for seniors who are able to live on their own, but want the convenience of communal living. Many studies have proven the benefits of living in a community as people age, and how it positively contributes to active aging and living. Independent living communities, like Origin Active Living Communities, provide a variety of amenities and services designed to nurture the mind, body, and spirit.

ASSISTED LIVING

Assisted Living communities are designed for seniors who are able to remain independent and active, but need a helping hand. While residents can use all of a community’s amenities just as independent living residents, they also have the added services of assistance with the activities of daily living.

MEMORY CARE

Memory care communities meet the needs of individuals living with memory impairment such as Alzheimer’s Disease, a form of dementia. They offer a secure environment, designed to engage and care for people living with memory impairments. Similar to assisted living, they offer resort-style amenities and services, assistance with the activities of daily living, but with the added benefits of around the clock care, specially trained staff, and activities specifically designed for engagement.

RESPITE CARE

Respite care is temporary, short-term care provided when family caregivers cannot care for a loved one. This type of care can be used in case of an emergency, but is primarily used as a support system for family caregivers. Caring for a loved one is a rewarding, but difficult job – leaving little time for personal time. Many family caregivers experience something called caregiver burnout, and need time away from their responsibilities – whether it’s for work, vacation, or just a time to themselves. Respite care can help while providing them the peace of mind their loved one is being taken care of by trained professionals.
