I hope you are keeping well and warm! I just wanted to share an opportunity that may be of interest to yourself or someone you know. I have space available to join my upcoming Mindful Mornings - Movement & Mental Health Group which will take place each Monday morning in Feb. from 10am-11am in Carleton Place, Ontario. This is an opportunity to connect, check-in within a confidential space, participate in mindfulness and gentle movement and take home voluntary self-reflection questions. The movement can be done seated or standing depending on your comfort and capacity. The cost to participate is $25 per session or $100 for the month. Receipts will be provided for tax or insurance purposes. If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to register please email me at julia@juliamiller.ca
Feel free to share this opportunity with those you feel might benefit.

Many therapy students I have spoken to report feeling burnt out during their post-graduate training. I have created a 5 week online group therapy program to support the mental health of therapists in training. Each 90min. session will offer an opportunity to check in with yourself and others in a safe and confidential space. We will explore important issues and topics to help you navigate your academic and practical training with self-awareness, self-compassion, and a greater sense of connection and community support. If this opportunity speaks to you or you know someone who might benefit, please email me at julia@juliamiller.ca

When I first realized that other peoples’ capacity, responses and behaviours didn’t reflect my worthiness for care and compassion, it eased a lot of the pain I carried for not receiving the support I needed. Now I can see that those experiences prepared me to better hold space, empathize and offer compassion for others. If you’re seeking support, let’s connect.

We often describe difficult times as dark times, when it is hard to find hope, to find the light to guide our way. Carl Jung’s teachings on darkness and the shadow self bring me comfort and inspiration at this time of the year. What helps you connect to comfort and inspiration during dark times?

Being in relationship means we get to mirror things that others would not be able to see for themselves. It means bringing to light what would otherwise stay buried. This can be hard but this can also bring about healing, growth, understanding and connection. When we can look at triggers as trailheads for where we need to bring our attention and care, it provides an opportunity for gratitude for the lesson underneath it all. If you’re ready to be inspired and explore what’s next, let’s connect.

We often suppress our emotions due to a sense that they might be inappropriate for the context, or that the people around us might not understand, judge or criticize us, or that we don’t want to cause others stress or discomfort. This is not an exhaustive list of course, but I want to acknowledge that there are reasons why humans do this and it’s often not a conscious decision, but a coping mechanism. That being said, it is important to give ourselves time to be present with and express our emotions in safe places, in healthy ways.

As a teenager, art was a necessity for my mental health and overall well-being. When we are creative we give ourselves opportunities to express our feelings in ways that sometimes words don’t do justice. What’s your favourite way of expressing your emotions?

If you also have a strong response to the idea of being kind, gentle, loving and compassionate to yourself, maybe it's time to explore why. When you're ready, let's connect.

I’m a great admirer of Dr. Maté's work and I appreciate his efforts to challenge the beliefs held in western medicine that do not reflect what science has and continues to show us about pain, trauma and physical wellbeing. Have you read his book “The Myth of Normal : Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture? If so, what were your key takeaways?

As the days get darker and shorter it can be difficult to adjust. I'm reminded of a beautiful book by Katherine May called "Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times" and the wisdom shared regarding finding comfort in nature, community and ritual. What helps you prepare from the transition from fall into winter?

When we avoid seeing or acknowledging how our sensitivities, reactions and defenses impact our relationships and our experience of the world, we avoid the opportunity to deepen and improve our connection to self and others. If you’re ready to start your personal growth work, let’s connect.
