All jokes a side 🤣 I'm always showing up with love and kindness to staff, but also preparing myself to step it up when I have to.
One of the things I was taught in my original training was how to teach women how to advocate for themselves in the delivery room. Now what I teach is how you can advocate for yourself is preparing yourself for your birth and any outcome that could come up so that we have contingency plans.
No one can tell me that when a mom is in labor land that she a has the capacity to advocate for herself and we shouldn't expect her to. She should feel comfortable with her support team knowing they have her back.
Some people say well what about their partner? First, some people don't have partners and they hire people like me so they can have a support system. Second sometimes partners freeze up and they don't know what to do in that moment so it can be very very helpful when you have someone in your corner. Who knows your birth plan and is keeping an eye out for you so that your partner can just focus on being in that moment with you.
