“What does a chiropractor do with babies?”
Let’s start with what I don’t do. I don’t “crack” babies, and there are no quick jolts that you might be used to seeing in chiro videos online.
Chiropractic treatments for infants look like this video.
Sometimes they’re laying on the table, but more often than not, they’re treated in my lap because they’re often more settled this way.
Adjustments are done through sustained pressure. I’m feeling for areas that are tense, and lingering there.
Stretching and strengthening is also a big part of the treatment. I’m looking for asymmetries or preferences, and using various techniques to achieve more balance.
Unless we catch baby at a bad time with their naps or feeds, they’re typically very happy throughout the treatment. It’s not uncommon for a baby to sleep through or fall asleep while I’m treating them.
When you see paediatric chiro in action, it’s really the furthest thing from scary. Treatments are gentle, interactive, and effective (if I do say so myself!)
