A gift of $100,000 from Prince Edward Aqua Farms Inc. has helped fund the purchase of a new portable x-ray unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

During a recent visit, owners David Cole and John Paquet had the opportunity to meet with Medical Radiation Technologist, Holly Boswall, who demonstrated how this essential piece of equipment is supporting patient care every day.

Portable x-rays units function the same as traditional x-ray machines, but are compact and mobile, designed to be easily moved to other areas of the hospital outside of Diagnostic Imaging, such as patient rooms and the Emergency Department. This means faster, on-the-spot diagnostics, helping care teams quickly detect fractures, lung conditions, or other internal concerns without needing to move the patient.

This equipment is especially important for patients who are critically ill, immobile, or in isolation as it minimizes the need to transport them.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to Prince Edward Aqua Farms for their generosity and their commitment to supporting Island healthcare. 🧡

Before Pharmacy Appreciation Month comes to a close, we want to recognize the dedicated pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and staff who play a vital role in Island health care. 💊

As leaders in medication management, the Provincial Pharmacy Services team at the QEH provides a wide range of services, from drug procurement and managing shortages, to collaborating with patients and care teams, preparing sterile compounds, and supporting safe medication distribution for patients and long-term care residents across PEI.

Kilby Rinco, Director of Pharmacy Services, shares how donor support has helped advance technology and equipment, such as medication dispensing cabinets and automated packaging systems, enhancing efficiency and strengthening patient safety.
